December 4, 1954 — April 3, 2026

It is with profound sadness yet deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Brenda Kay Simpkins, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Brenda departed this world on April 3, 2026, at the age of 71, in the peaceful embrace of Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia. Born on December 4, 1954, in Huntington, Brenda was the beloved daughter of the late Brenda and Joseph Lewis. She was predeceased by her husband Ronald John Simpkins, who was the absolute love of her life, her parents, her step-son Raqi Simpkins, and her brother-in-law Joseph Ward. Brenda's journey in life was one marked by love, service, and a relentless spirit. She shared a remarkable life with her devoted husband, Ronald John Simpkins, whom she married at the tender age of sixteen. Together, they nurtured a family filled with love, laughter, and resilience, raising their children Ronda Finley, Roger Simpkins, Jonathan Simpkins, Mackenzie (Dwayne) Ferguson, Rachel (Joseph Cremeans) Simpkins, Tyler Simpkins, Sheena Simpkins, and Micah Blankenship. Brenda's legacy lives on through her grandchildren—Malakai Mullett, Karsyn Mullett, Aryiel Rose, Anyah Rose, Joshua Grace, Taylor Hensley, Devan Grace, Everleigh Ferguson, Shelby Simpkins, and Eric Simpkins—whom she adored and cherished immensely. A proud graduate of Wayne High School, Brenda continued her education in EMT and nursing at Marshall University, breaking barriers as the first-ever woman Paramedic and EMT in Wayne, WV. Her dedication to serving others was unparalleled, as she dedicated her life since 1999 to being a foster mother, offering a loving home to many children in need. Brenda was an entrepreneur at heart, owning several businesses in Wayne, including a grocery store, pawn shop, and an antique/craft store, which became community staples. A woman of strong faith, Brenda was an active member of Bethesda Baptist Church, where she found great joy in sharing her love for her Lord and Savior with others. Her hobbies reflected her nurturing spirit; she delighted in painting, creating antique dolls, and working tirelessly to secure a bright future for her children. Brenda was renowned for her quick wit, infectious laugh, and spirited nature. Her presence could light up any room, and her words—often blunt yet filled with wisdom—left lasting impressions on those fortunate enough to know her. Her ability to see the positives in life, coupled with her unwavering faith, guided and inspired those around her. A celebration of Brenda's remarkable life will be held on April 12, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Morris Funeral Home. The family welcomes all who knew and loved Brenda to join them in honoring her memory and legacy. The Simpkins family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have supported Brenda and their family businesses over the years. Your love and support were a testament to the profound impact she had on the community. As we bid farewell to Brenda, we do so with full hearts, thankful for the time we shared and the memories we will forever cherish. Her beautiful soul and the lessons she imparted will remain with us always, lighting our paths as we continue to celebrate the extraordinary life she led. Rest in peace, dear Brenda, knowing you were deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
