Brenda D. Woods, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2026, at the age of 62 after a long and courageous battle. Brenda was born on September 11, 1963, in Chicago, Illinois, to her cherished parents Claretha and Miller Lee, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her beloved brothers, Albert Taylor Jr. and Albert Williams, her dear aunt Theresa Erving, and her devoted husband, Eddie Woods. Brenda's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and faith. She graduated from Chicago Vocational School in 1982, pursued her passion for helping others at Bryman Medical School, graduating in 1984 as a Medical Assistant, and later earned an Associate Degree from Malcolm X College in 1987. Her career was marked by her service at Rush Presbyterian Hospital from 1987 to 1990 and at the Chicago Bank from 1991 to 1995. Brenda's nurturing spirit shone through her work as a foster parent from 2004 until 2025, where she touched countless lives with her kindness and compassion. Brenda was a devoted member of the Healing Wings of Glory church under the leadership of Prophet Joe Wilkes from 1994 to 2023. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her through every challenge and triumph with grace and resilience. Brenda was known for her unwavering patience, her warm and generous heart, and her passionate spirit. She was a woman of God who found joy in prayer, cooking, attending church services, and, most importantly, spending time with her treasured grandchildren. She is survived by her loving children, Keesha Lee (Anthony), Jawaan Woods, and Marsean Woods, and her 13 grandchildren, Shamar Shields, Antanel Shields, Anthony Shields Jr., Shamon Shields, Marshana Woods, Cherish Woods, Keysean Shields, Jada Smith, Jayla Woods, Lizzy Woods, Marsean Woods Jr., Mykail Harris, Keyshawna Conner, and Keith Conner Jr. Brenda also leaves behind her adored great-grandson, Giovanni Shields, and her devoted siblings, Ray Lee and David Williams, who will carry her memory in their hearts. Her one and only nephew Ray Strickland. Brenda married the love of her life, Eddie Woods, on May 19, 1989, and together they built a family rooted in love and support. Her legacy of love and faith will continue to inspire all who knew her. The family of Brenda Woods wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Brenda will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. In honor of Brenda's life and legacy, the family requests that any donations be made to a charity of your choice in her memory. A private funeral service will be held to celebrate her extraordinary life.
