In Loving Memory

Bonnie Fichera
July 19, 1946 — October 13, 2025
Bonnie Fichera, a lifelong Humboldt County resident, passed away peacefully at home with her family on October 13, 2025.
Bonnie was born on July 19, 1946, in Eureka, California, to John McPhillips and Muriel (Stapp) McPhillips. She grew up in the area surrounded by family, and from an early age she showed the independent streak that would define her entire life. Bonnie was, in the best possible way, a lone wolf. She did things on her own terms, at her own pace, and was not deterred by what others thought about it.
She married Richard Fichera, the love of her life, with whom she shared countless memories and adventures until his passing. Bonnie adored her role as mother and grandmother to her and Richard’s children. Her legacy lives on in them, as she imparted her wisdom, kindness, and a love for life that will remain with them forever.
Bonnie was predeceased by her parents, John and Muriel McPhillips, her sister Connie Owen, her brother Jack McPhillips, and her husband Richard. She is survived by her brother Rhett McPhillips; her children Annie Fichera, Richard Fichera Jr., and Dianna Shirley; her grandchildren Nathaniel Fichera, Madeleine Fichera, Izzy Fichera, Melissa Compton, Amber Heydinger, and Logan Shirley; and her great-grandchildren, along with innumerable extended family members and friends who were touched by her boundless energy.
Among Bonnie's many joys in life besides family, swing dancing held a special place in her heart. She delighted in the rhythm and joy of dance, often seen twirling and laughing on the dance floor with Richard, embodying the spirit of the music. It was through this passion that she found a profound sense of freedom and expression, a testament to her zest for life.
Bonnie's life was one of quiet strength and enduring love. She had an innate ability to make everyone feel special and was always available to those in need of a comforting word or a warm embrace. Her legacy is a testament to the power of love, family, and the simple joys of life.
In accordance with her wishes, a celebration of life will be held at her home on July 19th to honor her memory on her 80th birthday. RSVP requested.
Bonnie Fichera will be dearly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
