In Loving Memory

Bonita (Boni) Kay Freeburg
April 1, 1945 — July 12, 2026
With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of Bonita (Boni) Kay Freeburg, who departed this world on July 12, 2026. Born on April 1, 1945, in Chippewa Falls, WI, Bonita was a beacon of light, love, and joy to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Bonita was the embodiment of grace, faith, and generosity. Each day, she found solace and strength in her Daily Word, which reflected her deep devotion to God. Her spiritual journey was complemented by her dedication to yoga, nurturing her body, mind, and spirit with unwavering commitment.
Throughout her life, Bonita found delight in the simple joys: the soothing presence of water, the melody of the blues, the camaraderie of a card game, and the pleasure of travel and good food shared with friends. Her impeccable style was evident in every facet of her life. Beginning her professional journey as a decorator at Sears, she spent decades transforming the bridal industry. As the proud owner of Brides of France, Bonita empowered countless brides to feel their most beautiful on their special day. Her passion extended beyond bridal wear, into vintage jewelry and designer accessories, where her keen eye for elegance shone through.
Family was the cornerstone of Bonita’s life. She cherished every moment spent with her daughters, Jill Shadler and Beth Freeburg, her sister Mary Zulke, her nephews Danny, Gary, Brian, Jeff, Curtis Tyler, her niece Jamie, her life partner of 30 years, Jerry Douglas "Dougla" and her beloved Beni, her fury four-legged grandbaby. Her parents, Orvie Hansen (Nels) and Layton Thornby, along with her brothers Roger and Lynn, preceded her in death, but their memories lived on in her heart.
Bonita’s legacy is one of warmth, strength, kindness, and unyielding faith. Her presence was a source of joy and inspiration, lighting up every room she entered. Her spirit will forever resonate in every blues song, every serene moment by the water, and every cherished piece of jewelry worn with love.
A celebration of Bonita's life will be held on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Beth's House. Located at 44 10th Court, with the entrance on 9th Walk Street. 5P to Sundown. Please wear a scarf in her honor, we will parade to the beach for a sunset service. As we gather to honor her memory, we reflect on the immense gratitude we hold for Marsha Majka, whose unwavering generosity and kindness brought comfort in Bonita’s final days, as well as the compassionate staff at Torrance Memorial Hospice.
"Boni taught us that faith should be lived, beauty should be shared, laughter should be abundant, and love should always be given freely."
