In Loving Memory of Bobby Lynn Tanner On June 27, 2026, the world lost a remarkable soul as Bobby Lynn Tanner passed away peacefully. Born on April 16, 1953, in Union City, Tennessee, Bobby's life was a testament to love, dedication, and generosity—a life well-lived that touched the hearts of many. Bobby was the cherished son of the late Willie Bob Tanner and Jamie Tanner. He was preceded in death by his parents and also by his father-in-law Fred P. Smith, Jr., mother-in-law Pricilla Smith, and stepson John Derek Gatton. Despite these losses, Bobby's heart was full, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. He was the devoted husband to Diana Tanner, with whom he shared 36 beautiful years of marriage. Their union was a beacon of strength and love, admired by all who knew them. Bobby's legacy continues through his children: Jerry Lynn Gatton, married to Brenda of Lacey, Washington; Lisa Metz, married to Monte of Tipp City, Ohio; Joseph Gatton, married to Kelli of Bloomington, Illinois; and James Gatton of Smyrna, Tennessee. His grandchildren, Sara Dante-Dung, Lara Gamez, Derek Gatton, Christopher Metz, Jessie Hayes, Chelsea Epperly, Connor Hayes, Gene Hayes, Ragan Hinson, Matthew Gatton, John Gatton, Barrett Gatton, Caleb Gatton, and Jacob Gatton, were a constant source of pride and joy for Bobby. Bobby's family extended beyond his immediate kin. He was the cherished brother of Alice Griswald, married to Henry, and Becky Pruitt, married to Art. A loving uncle, he leaves behind nieces and nephews: Emily and husband David, Sarah and husband Michael, Catherine, Joseph and wife Rachael, and James. His family tree flourished with many beloved great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart. Throughout his life, Bobby embodied kindness and integrity. He was a man of his word, and his actions spoke volumes. Bobby's generosity knew no bounds—he gave freely of his time and resources, impacting lives in ways that will be cherished for generations. A celebration of Bobby's life will be held on August 22, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Maker Do Ranch, located at 2112 Resthome Road, Dyersburg, TN 38024. Family and friends are welcome to gather to honor Bobby's memory and celebrate the joy he brought to the world. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. This gesture will honor Bobby's spirit of giving and continue his legacy of kindness. Bobby Lynn Tanner will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his steadfast loyalty to friends, and his compassionate heart. While he will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on in the memories of those he touched.
