Bobby G. Barnes

November 16, 1936 — June 19, 2026

In loving memory of Bob G. Barnes, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who peacefully departed this world on June 19, 2026, at the age of 89. Bob passed away at home in the comforting embrace of his family, marking the end of a remarkable journey that began on November 16, 1936, in Roswell, New Mexico. Bob was the son of Robert and Ethel Barnes, whose love and guidance shaped him into the remarkable man we honor today. He spent his early years in Roswell, where his heart was filled with dreams that would eventually lead him to New Mexico State University. There, he pursued his passion for numbers, earning a degree in accounting that would lay the foundation for a distinguished career. In 1960, Bob embarked on his professional journey with Dixon Paper Company in El Paso, Texas, where he worked for the next 30 years. During his tenure at Dixon, Bob became an owner of Dixon along with a small group of partners. His dedication and leadership culminated in his role as Vice-President for the Southwest region, a testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence. Dixon was acquired by International Paper in 1993 and Bob embraced retirement but was far from finished writing his life story. In 1994, Bob and his beloved wife Jeannie relocated to Elephant Butte, New Mexico, where Bob embraced a new challenge, becoming the first mayor of the newly formed city. His decade-long tenure as mayor was marked by visionary leadership and a deep commitment to community, qualities that endeared him to the hearts of many. In 2004, the couple moved to Las Cruces and Bob volunteered as a docent and was heavily involved with the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum. Bob's life was a tapestry woven with family, faith, and community. He was married to Jeannie, the love of his life, for 72 beautiful years, a partnership that was blessed with three children: Rob (and wife KayLee), Cathy (and husband Rick), and Jim (and wife Cheryl). Bob's legacy of love and wisdom lives on in his eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, who will carry forward the values he espoused. His sister, Sandra Clevenger, and her husband Jack also survive him, along with countless friends and admirers. Beyond his professional and civic accomplishments, Bob was a man of varied interests. He found joy in boating, t and cherished every moment spent with family. His warmth, encouragement, and unwavering belief in others inspired all who knew him. Bob had an unparalleled gift for lifting spirits and fostering the best in everyone, leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched. The Barnes family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Scott Blois for his compassionate care during Bob's final days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, which held a special place in Bob's heart. In accordance with his wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate Bob's extraordinary life. Though we mourn his passing, we carry forward his spirit of love, kindness, and community, ever grateful for the time we were blessed to share with him. Bob G. Barnes will forever be remembered as a beacon of hope and a role model whose legacy will guide us all. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
