In Loving Memory

Bobby brooks senior
July 2, 1945 — March 27, 2026
With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Bobby Brooks, Sr., a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who peacefully departed this world on March 27, 2026, after a courageous battle with various illnesses. Born on July 2, 1945, in the close-knit community of Okemah, Oklahoma, Bobby’s journey through life was marked by love, resilience, and unwavering generosity.
Bobby was the beloved son of Frank and Rhoda Brooks, who preceded him in death alongside his brothers Frankie Junior, Thurman, Kermit, Donald, and sister Willie Bell Armitige. Together, they formed the foundation of a family rooted in faith and love, values that Bobby carried with him throughout his life.
In 1975, Bobby married the love of his life, Irene Watkins. Their union was blessed with love and laughter, standing strong against life's trials and tribulations. Although Irene went home to be with Jesus before him, their souls are now reunited, shining brightly together in eternity. Bobby is also predeceased by his son, Thurman Brooks, and grandson, Gregory Brooks, who now welcome him with open arms.
Bobby leaves behind a legacy of love through his surviving family: his son, Bobby Wayne Brooks II, daughter Angela Brooks, granddaughters Thurmina, Evelyn, Elizabeth Brooks, and Cherlee Collins, grandsons Tavion, T.J., and Christian Brooks, and his precious great-granddaughter, Rhi'nazia Collins. He is also survived by his big brother Ben Brooks, and sisters Ethel Baty, Betty Brooks, and Josephine Jones. Bobby's legacy of kindness and humor will continue to thrive through his numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many, many friends.
He was a proud graduate of Albuquerque, New Mexico's high school class of 1974, later obtaining his CDL in the late eighties, and earning a Diesel Equipment Technology degree with honors in 2005 from Albuquerque T.V.I. Community College. Bobby's career as a truck driver took him on many journeys, working alongside his brother Ben at Brooks Trucking, and contributing significantly to several other companies, including Star Paving and Constructors Incorporated.
A devoted member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church, Bobby served as a Deacon, embodying the spirit of service and community. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, and his contributions to the church and community will be deeply missed.
Bobby was known for his quick wit and warm smile, always ready with a joke to lighten the mood. He claimed to have helped put the dots on dominoes and was proudly the "first dominologist," ensuring that laughter and good times were ever-present in his company. His kindness and generosity touched countless lives, making everyone feel welcome and valued.
A service to honor and celebrate Bobby's life will be held on April 10, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Pleasant Green Baptist Church, located at 912 S McKinley St., Hobbs, NM 88240. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to assist the Brooks family with funeral costs, as they express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers of Desert Springs and the hospice staff of Carlsbad, New Mexico. The family also extends their thanks to all who have donated and supported them during this difficult time; your kindness will never be forgotten.
Bobby Brooks, Sr. lived a life full of love, laughter, and service. As we say goodbye, we celebrate the indelible mark he left on our hearts, cherishing the memories that will continue to bring us joy and comfort.
