It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Reverend Billy Joe Boggs, who left this world peacefully on July 13, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family. Billy Joe was born on August 12, 1934, in the quaint town of Second Creek, West Virginia, to Marshall and Mary Boggs. He was 91 years old.
Billy Joe lived a life of profound faith and dedication, marked by his unwavering commitment to his Lord and Savior and his deep love for his family. He battled Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s with courage and grace for 14 years, serving as an inspiring testament to his enduring spirit and resilience.
Reverend Boggs’ journey of faith began early in life, leading him to Holmes Bible College in Greenville, South Carolina, where he graduated in 1957. It was during his time at college that he met the love of his life, Betty Jo. They were united in marriage on December 28, 1956, beginning a beautiful partnership that lasted nearly seven decades.
For 52 years, Billy Joe tirelessly served as a pastor, retiring in 1999. His pastoral journey took him and his beloved Betty Jo to numerous communities across Virginia. From Fries Pentecostal Holiness Church in Fries, VA, to Winchester and Bedford Pentecostal Holiness Churches, and many other congregations across the state, he shared the Good News of the Gospel with unwavering devotion.
Billy Joe was predeceased by his parents, Marshall and Mary Boggs, and siblings Paul Boggs, Sr., Herschel Boggs, Eugene Boggs, Junior Boggs, Glenna Frazier, Gracie Martin, Hypes Boggs, and Gerie B. He leaves behind a legacy of love and faith through his surviving sisters Phyllis Scruggs, Juanita Jewell, Isabelle Fogus, and Mary Marshall Pence, as well as his children Pam Stewart (Michael), Susan Cleary-Carpenter, Mark Boggs (Clara), Kimberly Falkenberry (Meadows), and Karin Kirby. He was also a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather to many.
The Boggs family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Trellis Supportive Care for their compassionate care during Billy Joe's final years. They also wish to express their deep appreciation to Reggie Greenleaf, Tandy Jackson, Paula Fightmaster, and Barbara, whose dedication and loving care provided comfort and support.
A service to celebrate Billy Joe's life will be held at Botetourt Funeral Home, located at 14920 Lee Hwy, Buchanan, VA 24066. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the International Pentecostal Holiness Church in Christiansburg, Virginia, honoring Billy Joe's lifelong dedication to his faith community.
Reverend Billy Joe Boggs will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his compassionate heart, and his unwavering dedication to his faith and family. His life was a testament to the power of love and service, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
