In Loving Memory

Billy Dale Young
December 13, 1939 — July 4, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Billy Dale Young on July 4, 2026, at the age of 86. Billy peacefully departed this world at his home in Lampasas, Texas, surrounded by family and friends, just as he lived—with warmth and love.
Born on December 13, 1939, in Austin, Texas, Billy was the beloved son of Woodrow Young and Judy Brackett and was raised by his aunt Winefred "Sug" Young. He was a proud graduate of William Travis High School in 1958, after which he served honorably in the U.S. Army until 1961. Following his military service, Billy furthered his education at Austin Business School, setting the foundation for a dedicated career with the State Board of Insurance, where he worked from 1962 until his retirement in 1991.
In 1966, Billy married the love of his life, Virginia "Ginny" Scott, in a beautiful ceremony in Lampasas, Texas. Their marriage was a shining example of love and devotion, lasting until Virginia's passing in 2011. Together, they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and cherished memories on their land in Lampasas.
Billy's life was a testament to generosity and craftsmanship. A master carpenter, he delighted in helping family and friends with projects, watching them flourish through his guidance and care. Traveling and playing chicken foot with "The Gang"—Wayne Cleveland, cousin Jinks Paschall and wife Jeanie, Franklin and wife Linda—brought him immense joy.
Billy is survived by his loving children, daughter Micki Goodman and her husband Scott, and son Daniel Young. He took immense pride in his grandchildren, Tyler Martinez and husband Edward, and Brianna Goodman. His legacy of kindness extends to his brother Quinn Brackett and wife Carol, brother-in-law James Rodgers, nephews Bob Rodgers and wife Chelle, Rusty Rodgers and wife Juanita, Randy Carroll and wife Lisa, nieces Becky Wallace and husband Wesley, Amy Fleming, and cousin Jimmy Kitchens and wife Eileen and friends and family.
Preceding him in death were his beloved wife Ginny, his parents, and sister-in-law Sue Rodgers, daughter in law Lori Young, and his friend and "Gang" member Janie Cleveland
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to New Century Hospice, with special thanks to his nurse Angelica and his aide Alicia, for their compassionate care during Billy's final days.
A service to honor Billy's remarkable life will be held at 11:00 AM on July 9, 2026, at Fulton Family Funeral Home, located at 401 North Key Ave, Lampasas. He wanted everyone to go to Country Kitchen for lunch directly after the service! In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Billy's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause close to his heart.
Billy Dale Young's warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love for those around him will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew him.
