Lisbon, Iowa - Billie Gay Wilson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 21, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on February 6, 1939, in the heart of Lisbon, Iowa, Billie was the cherished son of Virgil and Edna Wilson. His life was a testament to kindness, service, and the power of imagination. Billie was predeceased by his loving parents, Virgil and Edna; his sister Mary Rodman; twin brother Bolton Wilson; and sister Lois Woods. Their memories were never far from his heart, and he often spoke fondly of them, sharing stories that kept their spirits alive for those who never had the chance to meet them. A dedicated family man, Billie is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Kathleen, whose partnership and love were the bedrock of his life. Together, they raised four children who were the light of his world: Marylois Shinn (Todd), Shawn Wilson (Karen), Maureen Seitz (Michael), and Shannon Wilson. Billie's legacy is further carried on by his five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy. Billie served his country with honor as a member of the United States Navy from May 1958 to March 1979. As a Hospital Corpsman, he dedicated himself to the care and well-being of his fellow service members, completing two tours in Vietnam with the Seabees. His military service was a profound part of his life, and he remained a proud member of the Catholic War Veterans, where he found camaraderie and purpose. After his distinguished military career, Billie continued his commitment to helping others as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor for a decade. His empathy and understanding touched countless lives, offering hope and a path forward to those in need. Those who knew Billie will forever remember his remarkable ability to weave captivating stories, crafted spontaneously and shared with anyone willing to listen. His imagination was boundless, and his stories were infused with warmth and wit, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. Billie Wilson lived a life full of love, service, and creativity. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion and loyalty that will endure in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. As we celebrate his life, we are reminded of the joy he brought into the world and the many ways he made it a better place. A memorial service will be held to honor Billie's extraordinary life, with details forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a veteran's charity of your choice, in keeping with Billie's lifelong spirit of service.
