Born on May 19, 1930, in the vibrant city of Newark, New Jersey, Bill departed this world peacefully on April 15, 2026, at Tidewell House in Venice, Florida. Bill was the beloved son of Hannah Moorfield and Frank Shannon, and he carried forth the values they instilled in him throughout his life. A devoted husband, father, and partner, Bill was predeceased by his dear wife Patricia, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage of nearly five decades, beginning on a memorable Valentine's Day in 1954. Together, they raised three wonderful children—William, Paige, and Patti—whose memories are now cherished in eternity. Bill is survived by his loving life partner, Claire Peterlin, and his devoted son, Scott, who carry forward his legacy. His laughter and guidance will echo in the heart of his grandchild, a testament to the enduring love he cultivated within his family. Bill's life was underscored by his pursuit of knowledge and service. He graduated from the Newark College of Engineering in 1961, a testament to his inquisitive mind and dedication to personal growth. His commitment to service was evident in his time with the Air National Guard, where he served his country honorably until his discharge on January 3, 1954. A career at IBM followed, where Bill's intelligence and humor left a lasting impact on colleagues and clients alike. Outside of work, he was an active member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), where he combined his passion for flying with his generous spirit, sharing the joy of aviation with all who were eager to learn. As an avid pilot, Bill's enthusiasm for flight was infectious, and his mechanical skills served as a helpful hand to neighbors and friends alike. Bill's adventurous spirit was fueled by his love for travel, allowing him to explore the far corners of the world, always advocating his mantra of "Carpe Diem"—Seize the Day. This philosophy was a guiding beacon in his life, driving his positive attitude and warm-hearted approach to every situation. Known for his wit and wisdom, Bill was ever ready to lend a hand or share a laugh, making him a cherished friend and confidant to many. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Tidewell Hospice in Venice, Florida, for the compassionate care and dignity they provided during Bill's final days.
