November 9, 1938 — June 11, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bill Rager, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend to many, who departed this life on June 11, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on November 9, 1938, in Drakesboro, Kentucky, Bill was the cherished son of Edgar Atlas Rager and Tillie Marie (Boggess) Rager, who predeceased him, as did his beloved wife, Jan, and a dear grandchild.
Bill was a man of extraordinary spirit and vibrant life, marked by his entrepreneurial pursuits and a profound love for nature and adventure. He was married to the love of his life, Carolyn Janette “Jan” Rager, for 63 wonderful years until her passing on December 29, 2020. Together, they wove a tapestry of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will forever be treasured by their family.
A self-made man, Bill owned and operated his own machine tool and die shop, where his can-do attitude and innovative spirit were evident in everything he did. Not one to rest on his laurels, he also owned a bowling alley and a card room, where he cultivated a community of friends and patrons who appreciated his warmth, integrity, and sharp business acumen.
Bill's love for the outdoors was unmatched. He found joy and solace in fishing and hunting, often embarking on memorable fishing trips to Alaska. His passion for travel was shared with his beloved Jan, as they explored new places and created countless adventures together. At home, his faithful dog Benny was a constant companion, sharing in his quiet moments of reflection and contentment.
Bill's legacy lives on through his loving children, Curtis Gene Rager and his wife Erin, and Tammy Lou Fourt. He was the proud grandfather to five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life. His family was the cornerstone of his existence, and he cherished each moment spent with them, offering guidance, love, and unwavering support.
He is survived by his brother, Edgar Rager, and sister, Margie Mayes, who will fondly remember their shared childhood and the bond that sustained them throughout their lives.
Bill's life was a testament to the power of resilience, determination, and love. His entrepreneurial spirit and zest for life were matched only by his devotion to his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and a life well-lived.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and share stories of a remarkable man who touched so many lives. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Bill's memory to a charity close to his heart.
Bill Rager will be dearly missed but never forgotten, as his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
