It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Bill Kominos, who departed this world on July 1, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on April 1, 1938, in the city of Antwerp, Belgium, Bill's journey through life was marked by adventure, dedication, and an enduring love for his family and friends. Bill was the cherished son of Ted and Sophie Kominos, who preceded him in death, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and resilience. As a young man, Bill moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from high school, setting the stage for a life of accomplishment and service. His academic pursuits took him to Auburn University, where he joined the esteemed Kappa Sigma fraternity and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. With a thirst for knowledge and a passion for justice, Bill continued his education at Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, where he proudly obtained his Juris Doctor degree. For over five decades, Bill dedicated himself to the practice of criminal law in Alabama, a career that spanned from 1967 until his retirement in 2019. Known for his unwavering commitment to justice and his compassionate approach to his clients, Bill left an indelible mark on the legal community. His membership in the Alabama Bar Association and the Masonic Lodge was a testament to his professional integrity and his dedication to service. Beyond his professional life, Bill was a man of many passions. From the thrill of hang gliding to the adrenaline of car racing, Bill's adventurous spirit knew no bounds. He embarked on solo cross-country journeys on his Harley Sportster, savoring the freedom of the open road. His heart, however, found peace on the water, where he became an avid sailor, spending countless joyful days aboard his beloved 32' Cheoy Lee Sloop, cruising the serene waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Bill's life was enriched by the love and companionship of his dear wife, Jackie, with whom he shared a decade of marriage. Together, they built a loving family that includes his two cherished children, Athena and Alex, and his adored grandchildren, Kade and Amara. Bill's sister, Elaine Kominos Hardy, and his nephew, Travis Johnston, remain as testaments to the close-knit family bonds that he nurtured throughout his life. Bill's warmth, humor, and boundless zest for life touched all who knew him. His legacy will forever be celebrated by those who had the privilege of sharing in his journey.
