Beverly Hayward

October 26, 1936 — September 17, 2026

It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Beverly Hayward, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, on September 17, 2026. Beverly was born on October 26, 1936, in the small town of Dupree, South Dakota, to Henry F. Burgee and Laura A. Hand. She was a beacon of light and warmth to all who knew her, and her presence will be profoundly missed. Beverly spent her formative years in Dupree, where she developed a love for family and community that would guide her throughout her life. She was predeceased by her parents, her siblings Robert and Dude Burgee, and Mary Wickliffe, as well as her beloved husband, Dr. Sterling R. Hayward. Beverly and Sterling were married on August 10, 1970, in Big Sky, Montana. Their marriage was a testament to love and partnership, spanning 30 wonderful years until Sterling's passing in 2001. Beverly is survived by her devoted children, Janice Bergman, Lynda Carroll, and Rob Hayward, who were her pride and joy. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren Jon Bergman, James Bergman, Jen McBeath, Emily Carroll, Andrew Carroll, and Ian Hayward, as well as her dear nephew, Dr. Thomas Wickliffe. Beverly took immense joy in her role as a grandmother, sharing her passions and wisdom with the younger generations. Following Sterling's passing, Beverly found solace and purpose in her community at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, where she was an active member and volunteer. Her faith and commitment to service were inspiring to all who knew her. Beverly also found happiness in her hobbies, particularly golf and bowling, activities that brought her joy and introduced her to lifelong friends. A celebration of Beverly's life will be held on September 30, 2026, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, located at 2055 Woody Drive, Billings, MT. Family and friends are invited to gather and remember a life well-lived and a woman deeply loved. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Beverly's memory to St. Thomas the Apostle Church, reflecting her dedication and lasting connection to her faith community. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers from Compassus Hospice and West Park Village, whose support brought comfort to Beverly in her final weeks. Beverly Hayward will be remembered as a loving mother, a devoted grandmother, and a cherished friend. Her unwavering kindness, gentle spirit, and remarkable strength will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
