In Loving Memory

Beverly C. Lewis
August 3, 1941 — July 8, 2026
Born on August 3, 1941, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Beverly was the cherished daughter of Gertrude and Roy Cox. She was predeceased by her parents, beloved sister, Barbara Gomez, and her husband, John Lewis Sr.
A proud graduate of Warren Harding High School in 1959, she pursued her calling in nursing, earning her LPN from the Bridgeport School of Nursing in December 1960. Her career began at Bridgeport Hospital, where she dedicated herself to the care and comfort of others. Beverly later found fulfillment as a Teacher’s Assistant in the Stratford School System, though her heart always led her back to nursing. Her final professional chapter was spent at Astoria Park Convalescent Home, where she served loyally for 21 years until her retirement in 2008.
Beverly was an active and devoted member of the Messiah Baptist Church. As a teenager, her involvement with the NAACP Youth Council provided her the unique opportunity to meet The Little Rock Nine and Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. She held the presidency of the Hostess Club twice and was an integral part of the Silver Saints. Her influence extended beyond the church as she led the Honeyspot School PTA and was a passionate supporter of the Stratford Pop Warner Football Program.
Beverly delighted in conversations with her friends, and enjoyed monthly outings with the "Luncheon Ladies”. She found pleasure in murder mysteries, especially "Murder She Wrote." She also enjoyed word searches, catalog shopping, and above all, time spent with her family. Beverly treasured every moment with her grandchildren, Saraya, Elijah, and Niyah, and her granddog, Dallas.
Known for her quiet confidence, quick wit, and generous spirit, Beverly was a beacon of kindness and humor. She had a remarkable ability to give, not just through material gifts but through her unwavering care for others.
Beverly is survived by her two loving sons, John Lewis Jr. (partner John Pacheco) and Damon Lewis (wife Kiesha); her grandchildren, Saraya, Elijah, and Niyah, and a host of family and friends.
A celebration of Beverly's life will be held on July 16, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Messiah Baptist Church, located at 210 Congress Street, Bridgeport, CT 06604.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Cambridge Health & Rehabilitation Center in Fairfield, CT, for their exceptional care and compassion.
Beverly C. Lewis will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She departed this world peacefully at her home, embraced by the loving presence of her two devoted sons, John and Damon. She was 84 years old.
