It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Beverly Alice McLean Bourns. Beverly left this world unexpectedly on June 1, 2026, at the age of 86, following complications after a second knee replacement surgery. Her vibrant spirit and tender heart were a source of joy and inspiration to all who knew her. Born on May 29, 1940, in a humble sharecropper’s home with a dirt floor in Lynn County, Texas, Beverly was the beloved daughter of Lewis P. McLean and Dovie Earl Wilhite McLean. Her early life was a testament to resilience and determination, qualities that she carried with her throughout her life. Beverly was predeceased by her cherished husband of 36 years, Burl Dewayne Bourns, her parents, her brothers Loren and Jerry McLean, and her grandson, James Anthony Merlo. She is survived by her loving children, daughter Dana Lue LaRue and son-in-law Gary LaRue, and son Tony Dewayne Bourns and daughter-in-law Lanie Bourns. She was a devoted grandmother to Nicole Danielle Mueller and her husband John, Lance Keegan Merlo and his wife Jennifer, Jake Bourns, and Kannon Bourns, and a doting great-grandmother to Katelyn, Addison, Madeline, and John Mueller. Her sister, Linda McLean Southall of King George, Virginia, sister-in-law Bobbie Jean McLean of Lubbock, Texas, and her dear friend and like-sister, Carol Dawn Sanders Carpenter of Lubbock, Texas, along with numerous nieces and nephews, will forever cherish Beverly’s memory. Beverly was a proud graduate of Monterey High School, class of 1958, and she pursued further education with many technical certifications during her impressive 42-year career with AT&T/SWBT. Her work ethic and dedication led her to retire twice, first in 1999, and again in 2002, after being called back for a special project. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly when she founded "Granny with Wheels" in 2012, a business that allowed her to indulge in her true passions: family, friends, and the thrill of a casino visit. A proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution - Martha Jefferson Randolph Chapter, and The Red Hat Society, Beverly was known for her quick smile, infectious laughter, and the warmth she extended to everyone she met. Her zest for life was evident in her love for games, whether playing Texas Hold ‘Em at the Plano Senior Center or slot machines at Choctaw. Beverly found immense joy in live music at The Wylie Opera and took every opportunity to engage with her grandchildren, sharing countless hours of play and laughter. Her love for animals, especially dogs and cats, was a testament to her nurturing spirit. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the ICU staff at Texoma Medical Center for their professionalism, diligence, and compassion during Beverly's final days. A celebration of Beverly’s life will be held on June 11, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home and Memorial Park, located at 5740 W. 19th Street, Lubbock, Tx. There will also be a Celebration of Life at the Sam Johnson Plano Senior Center - for her North Texas friends 401 West 16th Street Plano, Tx - June 20th at 10:30 am - Noon.
