Rev. Bettye Jean Tinort
October 2, 1938 — October 26, 2026
With profound sadness and a deep sense of gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of Bettye Jean Tinort, who departed this world on October 26, 2026. Born on October 2, 1938, in Newton, Mississippi, Bettye was a beacon of faith, love, and dedication to her family and community.
Bettye was the cherished daughter of Willie Lee Chapman. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Joel L. Tinort, who passed in December 1997. Her legacy lives on through her devoted children, Sekai Adebanke and Esther Tinort, and her adored grandchildren, Namel Davis, Niara Adebanke, and Micah Adebanke. Though no great-grandchildren were born to her, her nurturing spirit touched countless lives.
Her academic journey led her to graduate from The College of New Rochelle, where she earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master's degree. With her passion for education, Bettye dedicated her professional life to teaching in the New York City Public Schools, where her impact was profound and lasting.
Bettye's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She was an active member of St. Luke F.B.H. Church, serving in numerous roles such as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, an ordained deaconess, a district evangelist, and an assistant pastor. Her commitment to the spiritual growth of those around her was unwavering. She found immense joy in reading the Bible and inspired many to join her in reading through it each year.
Her warmth and hospitality were legendary, including in the kitchen. Friends and family alike relished the opportunity to taste her delicious cooking, which was prepared with love and care. Bettye was known for her genuine concern for others, often reaching out to offer encouragement and support, discussing the faithfulness of God with all who would listen.
Bettye leaves behind a host of friends and loved ones who will forever cherish her memory. Her life will be celebrated at a service on November 7, 2026, at 12:00 PM at the World of Victory International Christian Center, located at 1414 Cliffwood Drive, Greensboro, NC 27401.
Though we are very appreciative of these beautiful flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Moody Bible Institute of Chicago, honoring Bettye's lifelong commitment to faith and education.
The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to all who have supported and loved Bettye throughout her life. Her memory will forever be a blessing to those who were fortunate enough to know her.
