Born on April 21, 1945, in Jackson, Mississippi, Betty was the daughter of Robert Lee Dawson and Mae C. Taylor-Mitchell. Betty's life was a testament to love, kindness, and dedication. In 1967, she married the love of her life, Charley Henry Sykes, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared a deep, unwavering bond until Charley's passing. Their union was blessed with two children, Ketrine Sykes and Charley Henry Sykes Jr., who were the pride and joy of Betty's life. A devoted grandmother to Valencia Long, Brianna Sykes, and Rashad Sykes, Betty found great joy in nurturing her family and watching them grow. Her legacy of love extends further to her two great-grandchildren, who brought light into her life and carried forward her gentle spirit. Betty was a remarkable woman who dedicated her career to caring for others as the owner of a daycare center. An active member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church since 1969, Betty's dedication to her church community was unwavering.
