Betty Ruth Cain
January 3, 1940 — April 24, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we celebrate the remarkable journey of Betty Ruth Cain, who passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026, surrounded by love and grace. Born on January 3, 1940, in the close-knit community of Jackson, Tennessee, Betty was a beacon of warmth and kindness, whose life was a testament to strength, devotion, and an unwavering love for family and friends.
Betty was the cherished daughter of Lucinda Smith and Benjamin Marshall. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her daughter Benita Wiley, her brothers Benjamin Marshall Jr. and James Comer, her sisters Lucille Watson, Alberta Black, and Helen King, and her granddaughter Erica Barkstale. Though she has left this world, she reunites with them in eternal peace.
A proud graduate of Cameron High School, class of 1957, Betty's life was enriched with a deep commitment to service and care. For thirty-five years, she was a dedicated Coordinator Clerk at Vanderbilt Hospital, where her work ethic and compassion touched the lives of many. Her colleagues and patients alike knew her as a reliable and nurturing presence, always ready with her beautiful and welcoming smile.
Betty was a devout member of Temple Church, where her faith was a cornerstone of her life. She found joy in serving the community, particularly in the church daycare, where her nurturing spirit shone brightly. Her love for the Lord was matched only by her love for her family and the countless friends she gathered throughout her life.
A lover of life’s simple pleasures, Betty adored motherhood and dedicated herself to raising her children with love and care. She found joy in traveling, cooking, and dancing, always bringing smiles to those around her with her infectious laughter and radiant spirit.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: Tommie Lee Rivers, Jr., Michael Cain (and his partner, Angela Covington), Reginald Rivers (and his wife, Victoria), and Rhonda. Her memory will also be cherished by her sister Carolyn Marshall, her brother George David Marshall, and a large, loving family including sixteen grandchildren, forty-three great-grandchildren, and fifteen great-great-grandchildren. Her life was a tapestry woven with the love and laughter of many family members and friends.
A celebration of Betty's life will be held on May 14, 2026, at Temple Baptist Church, located at 3810 Kings Lane. As we gather to honor her memory, the family acknowledges with sincere appreciation the comforting messages, calls, flowers, and all other expressions of kindness during this time of bereavement. Special thanks are extended to Sapphire At Music City Assisted Living and Memory Care Facility, Jodi Adkins (Caregiver), and the Tristar Summit Medical Center Fourth Floor ICU team for their compassionate care.
Betty Ruth Cain will be remembered for her unwavering love, her joyous laughter, and her ability to make everyone feel welcomed and cherished. Her legacy is one of strength, devotion, and enduring love. As we bid farewell to a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, we find solace in the memories she leaves behind and the love that will continue to guide us all. May her soul rest peacefully, embraced by the grace she shared so generously in life.
