November 19, 1938 — April 30, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Betty Ramsey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Betty passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at a hospital in Texas. She was 87 years old. Betty was born on November 19, 1938, in Anniston, Alabama, to the late Arthur and Mae Longino. She was the youngest of their five children, and her early years were filled with the love and laughter shared with her siblings: Joyce Gearner, Wynelle Martin, Lawrence Longino, and Dewey Longino, all of whom predeceased her. Her family was a source of strength and inspiration throughout her life. Betty's journey took her to Texas, where she graduated from Lindale High School. It was in Dallas that she met the love of her life, Milton Ramsey, whom she married on April 18, 1959. Their union was blessed with two sons, Matthew and Marshall Ramsey, who, along with Milton, survive her. Betty was a devoted and nurturing mother, and her sons were the pride of her life. Betty's love for music was a defining aspect of her early years. She embarked on a singing career as a teenager, making weekly appearances on a local Dallas TV channel and performing in various venues in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Louisiana. Her talent and charm caught the attention of none other than Elvis Presley, who invited her to join him in his free weekly performances at Fort Hood, TX. Betty occasionally graced the stage with the legendary performer, creating memories that she cherished throughout her life. A dedicated member of the Tyler, Texas Church of The Nazarene, Betty's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted Christian who found solace and strength in reading her Bible each night before bed. Her warm, beautiful smile and caring attitude toward others were testaments to her deep and abiding faith. Betty's legacy extends to her cherished grandchildren: J.D. Ramsey, Jordan Ramsey and his wife Vivian, and James Ramsey and his wife Cynthia. Her love and wisdom have left an indelible mark on their lives, and they will carry her spirit forward through the generations. In addition to her family, Betty loved listening to gospel music, particularly recordings by Elvis Presley. Her appreciation for music was a reflection of her joyful spirit and zest for life. A celebration of Betty's life will be held on May 7, 2026, at 1:30 PM at the Charles W Smith Funeral Home, located at 2343 Lake Rd, Lavon, TX 75166. Friends and family who are unable to attend in person are invited to join the service via livestream at charleswsmithandsonsfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of choice in Betty's honor, as a tribute to her generous and giving nature. Betty Ramsey's life was a testament to love, kindness, and faith. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and compassion that will be remembered forever.
