November 4, 1945 — June 27, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Betty Irene Miller Cantu, a beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, on June 27, 2026. Betty was born on November 4, 1945, in Clarinda, Iowa, to Dirwoord William Miller and Velma Opal Preeo Miller. She departed this world at the age of 80, embraced by the love and comfort of her home, after a long and courageous battle with COPD. Betty's life was a tapestry woven with deep compassion, kindness, and unwavering love for those around her. Her journey through life was marked by significant milestones and cherished relationships. She married Alfredo Raul Cantu on March 26, 1966, and although their paths eventually diverged, they remained intertwined through their cherished son, Scott Cantu, who survives her. Betty's early years in Clarinda were marked by her graduation from Clarinda High School in the class of 1964. She later embarked on a career that reflected her dedication to nurturing young minds. For over a decade, she served as a paraprofessional at Loveland High School, where her caring nature touched countless students. In Texas, she found joy in her work as a bus monitor for the Arlington Independent School District, alongside many other endeavors throughout her life. Her warmth extended beyond her professional life into her personal passions. Betty had an insatiable love for reading, a talent for calligraphy, and a tender heart for animals. Her home was a sanctuary for her beloved dogs, from childhood companions Muggins and Pepper her own family dogs Tracy, Buffy and Gigi to later-life rescues Tipper, Holly, and Ozzy. Each pet held a special place in her heart, especially Buddy, a stray who became a cherished member of her family. Betty's generous spirit was evident in her relationships, where her kindness and compassion shone brightly, endearing her to family and friends alike. She leaves behind her devoted son, Scott Cantu, her brother Richard "Dick" Miller and sister in law Celinda, as well as a multitude of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and a circle of close friends who will forever treasure her impact on their lives. Her Shih Tzu, Ozzy, remains a poignant reminder of her boundless love for her four-legged companions. In honoring Betty's memory, the family invites you to a service celebrating her life on July 25, 2026, at Viegut Funeral Home, 1616 N Lincoln Ave, Loveland, CO 80538. Betty's family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the Good Samaritans Society staff and Pathways Hospice of Northern Colorado for their compassionate care during her final days, as well as to Viegut Funeral Home for their assistance with arrangements. In the words of her loving son, Scott: "Mom, your suffering is no more. You now get to be in Heaven, the Kingdom of God, with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Fly high and spread your wings. I love you forever. It was an honor to be your son." Betty's legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will forever inspire those who knew her. May she find eternal peace and joy in the arms of the angels.
