It is with heavy hearts and loving memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Betty Covey, who left us on February 16, 2026, at the age of 102. Born on August 17, 1923, in Elkhart, Indiana, Betty lived a life full of compassion, dedication, and love, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
Betty was a beacon of warmth and kindness, effortlessly extending her nurturing spirit throughout her long and fulfilling career as a registered nurse with Elkhart Memorial Hospital. A proud graduate of Concord High School, she devoted over 40 years to caring for others, embodying the true essence of a caregiver. Her colleagues and patients alike remember her big heart and unwavering commitment to their well-being.
Beyond her professional life, Betty cherished her time spent with family, which was the cornerstone of her happiness. She was married to the love of her life, Lawrence Covey, for over 50 blissful years, a partnership that epitomized love, support, and enduring companionship. Together, they built a family rooted in love and laughter, a family that grew to include five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored deeply.
A woman of many talents, Betty was an extraordinary seamstress, creating beautiful garments that were as lovingly crafted as they were worn. Her culinary skills were equally admired, with her red velvet cakes gaining legendary status among family and friends. Cooking was more than a hobby for Betty; it was a joyful expression of her love and generosity, often bringing people together around her table.
Betty's life was a testament to the power of love, compassion, and resilience. Though she is predeceased by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched with her kindness and selflessness.
In her final days, Betty remained surrounded by the warmth of her family and the comfort of her home, as she peacefully transitioned to a place of eternal rest. Her family lovingly honors her memory with the words: "Forever in Our Hearts."
A private family service will be held to celebrate Betty's life, where stories of her warmth, humor, and unwavering love will be shared. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made in Betty's name to a charity of your choice, continuing her lifelong dedication to helping others.
