In Loving Memory

Bettina D'Alessio Divens
October 12, 1930 — February 16, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Bettina "Betty" D'Alessio Divens on February 16, 2026. Betty, as she was affectionately known, departed this world at the age of 95, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family in her beloved home. Born on October 12, 1930, in Syracuse, New York, Betty's life was a testament to love, kindness, and devotion to family and faith.
Betty was the cherished daughter of Philomena (Fannie) and Angelo D'Alessio. Raised in a bustling household as one of nine siblings, Betty formed unbreakable bonds with her sisters Lucy, Grace, Gloria, Yolanda, Aggie Olson, and Stella D'Alessio, and her brothers, Joseph and John D'Alessio. Her siblings were her lifelong companions, and together they shared laughter, stories, and the occasional Sunday pasta and meatballs.
A graduate of North High School in Syracuse, Betty embarked on a journey that led her to work for the Department of the Navy, where she served her country with pride. In February of 1954, she married the love of her life, James Divens, and together they built a beautiful family. Betty's world revolved around her three children: Michael Divens, Sharon (Albert) Irons, and Lisa (David) Divens. Her dedication to her family was unparalleled, and she found immense joy in her role as a homemaker.
Betty's home was a haven for her loved ones, filled with the aroma of her legendary cooking and baking. Her Sunday pasta and meatballs were renowned in her neighborhood, and her Christmas cookies brought joy to all who had the pleasure of tasting them. Betty's kitchen was not just a place of culinary excellence but a space where love was shared and memories were made.
A devout Catholic throughout her life, Betty's faith was a guiding light. She found solace and purpose in prayer and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her compassion extended beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of friends and neighbors alike.
Betty adored her grandchildren, Evan Bedford, Elliott Bedford, and Kathrine Irons, and her four great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy and pride. She cherished every moment spent with them, nurturing them with the same love and care she bestowed upon her own children.
Betty had a special place in her heart for her pets, most notably her dear "Twiggy," who was her faithful companion in her later years. Her nurturing spirit extended to all living creatures, and she found great comfort in their presence.
In her memory, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, an organization that was close to Betty's heart.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the team at Healthfirst Hospice, whose compassionate care made Betty's final days peaceful and dignified.
Betty's legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She leaves behind a tapestry of cherished memories, woven with laughter, love, and the spirit of family. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth and grace will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Rest in peace, dear Betty. You will be forever missed and eternally loved.
