It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Bessie Manney. Born on November 15, 1945, in Winnsboro, South Carolina. Bessie departed this life on September 6, 2026, peacefully surrounded by her loving family.
Bessie was the cherished daughter of Frank and Viola Holmes, and she grew up in a family filled with love and deep bonds. She is proceeded in death by her husband, Willie Manney, with whom she married in the early 80s. Together, they raised three daughters, creating a legacy of love that continues to flourish through generations. Bessie is also preceded in death by her siblings: sisters Lizzie Holmes, Annie Campbell, Ellen Alston, Lorie Holmes, Sarah Robertson, Lois Anthony; brothers Frank Holmes Jr., Jimmie Holmes, Iaccie Holmes, David Holmes, Willie Lee Holmes; Her daughter Mary Holmes; her granddaughter, Shanita Jackson; and her dearest friend, Susie Savage. She was the last of the Legacy.
Bessie attended White Hall Elementary and Mc Glory Liston High School, where she developed a passion for learning that she passed on to her children and grandchildren. In the early 70's she moved to Cleveland, Ohio with her son Albert. Her professional journey led her to G&S Metal Products, where she worked diligently for several years. Beyond her professional life, Bessie was a devout member of Christian United Baptist Church and later Green Grove Baptist Church, where she found a spiritual community that enriched her life.
A woman of many talents, Bessie had a flair for decorating and a love for shopping and yard work. However, her greatest passion lay in the kitchen, where she was renowned for her culinary skills. Her fried chicken was legendary, a testament to her love and care for her family and friends. Her home was always open, filled with warmth and the comforting aroma of her cooking.
Bessie was the proud mother of four children: Albert, Ruth, Mary, and Stephanie (Kenneth), who carry forward her legacy of love and kindness. She was a devoted grandmother to nineteen grandchildren, including Jasmean, Malaysha, Janee`, Carmen, Darrell, Kentrell, Alayjia, May`lon, Albert Jr., Carl Jr., Calvin, Kenvontae, Terrell, Keousha, Kenshawn, Kendale, Shonna, Kenneth Jr., and Dasanta. She was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren: Delvon, Fershon, Mia, Lay`Lani, Daxton, ZariYonna, Gabriella, Legend, and Heaven, who brought immense joy to her life.
Her extended family includes nieces and nephews: Lula, Mary, Margaret, Regina, Cynthia, Sonja, Shirley, Michelle, Kimberley, Lisa, Jackie, Frank, Edward, Willie Lee Jr., John Lee, Curit, Kevin, and Reggie. Numerous great-nieces, and great-nephews, as well as her godchildren: Rome, Robin, and Saida. Bessie was also embraced by the Woody Woods Family, Scott Family, Brisker Family, Harold Family, and Chaney Family, who were an integral part of her life's journey.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have supported them during this difficult time. Your calls, texts, visits, prayers, food, and acts of kindness have been a source of comfort and strength, and they will never be forgotten.
Bessie Manney's life was a testament to love, kindness, and strength. She touched the lives of all who knew her, and her legacy will continue to inspire and guide her family and friends. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she loved.
