Bessie Mae Palmore

Bessie Mae Palmore, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, peacefully departed this world on August 29, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on July 26, 1940, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Bessie brought warmth and joy to everyone she encountered. She was the cherished daughter of Jimmy and Julia Spurlock, who predeceased her, along with her dear brothers, Jimmy and Prez Spurlock, her loving husband, Cleophia (Joe) Palmore, and her son, Kyle Palmore. Bessie grew up in a household filled with love and laughter. Her life took a beautiful turn when she met and married Cleophia (Joe) Palmore on December 10, 1961 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Together, they forged a deep and enduring bond, raising their children in a home rich with love, good times, and spirituality. Throughout her life, Bessie was known for her tireless work ethic and compassionate spirit. She dedicated many years to the Cement Company before retiring following its closure. Her innate desire to help others then led her to become a caregiver, a role in which she excelled and found great fulfillment. A devoted member of Rock of Revelation, Bessie served as the "Mother of Church" for several years, where she was a beacon of faith and kindness. Her early years were filled with the joy of crafting macramé designs, a hobby that highlighted her creativity and patience. She was also known for her green thumb, transforming her garden into a vibrant oasis every spring and summer. Bessie's gentle nature and profound generosity left an indelible mark on everyone she met. She had a rare gift for making people feel valued and special, a testament to her warm and loving heart. Despite the challenges she faced with dementia, her spirit remained unyielding, inspiring those around her with her strength and grace. Bessie leaves behind her children, Kevin Palmore and Jacquelyn Palmore, who will continue to honor their mother's legacy of love and kindness. Although she had no grandchildren, her nurturing spirit touched the lives of many. A service to celebrate Bessie's life will be held on September 5, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Upper Room, located at 925 W. Mosel Ave., Kalamazoo, MI 49004. Following burial at ............ The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers, Arnell, Alison, Amy, Tina, and Isaac who provided loving support during Bessie's battle with dementia, as well as to Hospice Heartland for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Bessie’s memory to organizations supporting dementia research or hospice care, reflecting her lifelong dedication to helping others. Bessie Mae Palmore will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
