Bessie Lou Thompson

March 5, 1946 — June 16, 2026

Our darling diva "Mommy" Bessie Lou Thompson was born March 5,1946 in Chicago, IL to Leroy and Addie Clinton. She was the 6th oldest of 11 children. Mommy grow up in a in church where her father Rev Leroy Clinton preached. Mommy attended Georgy elementary and Marshall High school on the westside of Chicago. Later she met her late husband Napoleon Thompson Sr and had three amazing kids together (Pokey, Missy and Addie Baby). Mommy worked at Garfield Exterminations, Sears, General Electric and retired from Thompson's investments to become a home maker for her life partner of 50 years Edward Laye. Mommy was the "Go to lady". She made sure everyone was well taken care of. Mommy was over all the best of the best. She was your teacher, doctor, chef, therapist, pastor and then some. She housed you when you needed a place to stay, made home cooked meals that touched the soul. Mommy spent most of her time caring for her family all while listening to the 'Jays and The Whispers in the kitchen cooking. As she got younger with time and more independent her heart yearned for her loved ones. Unfortunately, Mommy became tired and needed her rest. So, on June 16, 2026 god whispered for her to come home and dance with her father again. Mommy was preceded in death by her Parents Leroy and Addie Clinton, Daughter Sonya Thompson, Life partner Edward Laye, sisters Jeannie, Easter, Shirley, Katherine.
