In Loving Memory

Bessie Lee Ingram
October 2, 1940 — April 30, 2026
In loving memory of Bessie Lee Ingram, who peacefully departed this world on April 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family at her cherished home. Bessie was a radiant soul whose life was a testament to love, faith, and resilience.
Bessie was born on October 2, 1940, in the quaint town of Eutaw, Alabama, to the late J.D. and Gladys Hardy. She was the embodiment of Southern grace and charm, values instilled in her from an early age by her loving parents. Bessie was the heart of the Hardy family, a sister to her many siblings, and a cherished friend to all who crossed her path.
Her journey led her to the bustling streets of Chicago, where she found both faith and love. Bessie devoted her life to the Lord at The Church of the Living God, serving with dedication on the Usher Board under the guidance of Bishop David Haynes. Her faith journey continued as she moved to Forest City, Arkansas, where she joined the Pine Tree Church of God and faithfully served under Pastor Verlee Lucas.
Bessie's life was enriched by her marriage to Cleodis Ingram Sr., whom she wed on July 16, 1978. Together, they built a loving family, cherishing every moment with their children and creating a home filled with laughter and warmth. Though Cleodis Sr., and her beloved children Angela, Tyrone, and Kimberly Walker have preceded her in death, Bessie's love and legacy endure through her surviving children: Lorenzo Walker, Cleodis Ingram Jr. (Michelle), and Shawana Ingram.
Her life was further blessed with the joy of watching her family grow, including eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, each carrying a piece of her heart and spirit. Bessie was also a devoted sister, survived by Anne Hinton, Gladys Cotton, Harvey Hardy, Melvin Hardy, and Denise Hardy, who will continue to carry her memory in their hearts.
Bessie attended Hendricks Elementary School and Dunbar High School, where she laid the foundation for a life dedicated to nurturing and caring for others. She chose the path of a domestic engineer, staying home to raise her children and extending her loving care to children in the neighborhood, earning her the title of a second mother to many.
Her vibrant spirit was matched by her humor, and she was known for her infectious laughter that could light up any room. Humble, caring, and ever-loyal, Bessie was a beacon of love in her community, touching countless lives with her warmth and kindness.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Bessie's remarkable life at a service on May 15, 2026, at 10:00 AM, to be held at Leaks & Sons Funeral Home, located at 7838 S. Cottage Grove, Chicago, Illinois, 60619. As we gather to honor her legacy, we remember Bessie not only for the life she lived but for the love she gave so freely.
In the hearts of those who knew her, Bessie Lee Ingram will forever be a symbol of unwavering faith, unconditional love, and joyous laughter. Her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us, reminding us always of the beauty found in a life well-lived.
