Berth Helen Rich
November 26, 1943 — September 30, 2026
With hearts full of gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we celebrate the memory of Bertha Helen Rich, whose kindness, grace, and unwavering compassion touched countless lives. Bertha passed peacefully in her sleep at Lifecare Center in Florida on September 30, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and faith that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Born on November 26, 1943, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Bertha was the cherished daughter of the late Kenneth Gaul and Helen Poloski. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Boyd, and brother-in-law Lawrence Rich, whose memory she carried with her throughout her life. From an early age, she possessed a warmth and generosity that would become the hallmark of her life.
Bertha shared a remarkable journey with her beloved husband, Vincent S. Rich. Together, they celebrated 62 years of marriage, building a family rooted in resilience and unconditional love. She was a proud and loving mother to two sons, the late Vincent “Scotty” Rich and David Rich. Her love extended through generations, and she leaves behind treasured grandchildren and a great-grandchild who will carry forward her spirit. She is also lovingly remembered by her sisters-in-law, Joann Gaul (married to Boyd), and Beverly Rich(married to Lawrence Rich), brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Cheryl Proctor, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her presence.
A dedicated registered nurse, Bertha answered a calling that perfectly reflected her compassionate heart. After earning her bachelor’s degree, she devoted her career to caring for others in hospitals throughout Latrobe, Monroeville, and Pittsburgh. To her patients, she was a source of comfort; to her colleagues, a trusted professional; and to all who crossed her path, a reminder of the healing power of kindness.
Bertha’s vibrant spirit found a home within the Lake Ashton community, where she was known for her welcoming smile, genuine interest in others, and boundless generosity. Whether attending Bible study, volunteering in outreach projects, or simply offering a listening ear, she lived her faith through action and made everyone feel valued and seen.
She possessed a rare gift—the ability to turn strangers into friends and ordinary conversations into meaningful connections. Her laughter brightened rooms, her encouragement lifted spirits, and her compassion left an enduring imprint on every heart she touched.
A private funeral ceremony will be held in honor of Bertha’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family invites those wishing to honor her memory to make a donation to a charity of their choice, reflecting Bertha’s lifelong commitment to helping others.
Though we mourn her passing, we rejoice in the extraordinary life she lived. Bertha Helen Rich’s story is one of faith, service, love, and generosity—a life that reminds us that the greatest legacy is not measured by what we leave behind, but by the lives we touch along the way. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
