Berte Berry Calvin, a remarkable woman who graced this world with her presence from July 23, 1930, until May 26, 2026. Born in Hemphill, Texas, Berte's life was a testament to the power of kindness, resilience, and unwavering love. Berte was the beloved daughter of the late Lonnie and Rosetta Berry. She grew up in a nurturing environment that laid the foundation for her exceptional character. The bonds of family meant everything to Berte, and she was predeceased by her devoted husband, Burrell Calvin, with whom she shared an extraordinary 68-year marriage that began on February 27, 1949. Together, they built a legacy of love that will forever inspire those who knew them. She was also predeceased by her cherished sons, Brenton and Burrell, Jr., her sister Azelee Robinson, and her brother Lonnie Berry Jr.. A graduate of Richmond Union High School in Richmond, California, class of 1949, Berte went on to lead a fulfilling professional life. Her career spanned various roles, including model, realtor, and employee with the Department of the Army, but her longest and most impactful service was with the Social Security Administration. Berte's exemplary dedication and kind-hearted service were hallmarks of her career, and her colleagues and clients alike were fortunate to be touched by her warmth and professionalism. Berte's vibrant spirit was ever-present in her hobbies and community involvement. A proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star, she found great joy in her social engagements. Her love for dancing was unparalleled, and she could often be found on the dance floor, spreading joy with every step. Berte also cherished her garden, especially her roses, and delighted in hosting gatherings that filled her home with laughter and warmth. Her personal grace was matched by her generosity and style. Known for her impeccable fashion sense, especially her love for anything gold, Berte's presence was as radiant as her heart. She had a unique ability to uplift those around her with her infectious smile and affectionate terms of endearment, always brightening the lives of others with her positive energy. Berte is survived by her loving daughter-in-love, Tami Hawkins (Al); her grandchildren, R.J. (Dayna), Myles, Elijah, and Janae; and her great-grandchildren, Ellis and Asher. Her legacy lives on through her extended family, including her nephews, nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and numerous friends, among whom she shared countless cherished memories. Special friends Kate McNamara and JoEllen and Gary Lay held a special place in her heart. A service to celebrate Berte's extraordinary life will be held on June 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Wiggins-Knapp Funeral Home, located at 524 Capitol St., Vallejo, CA 94590. Her family extends their deepest gratitude to all who have shared in Berte's journey, particularly her special niece Jeannie, whose unwavering love and dedication to Berte will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to honor Berte's memory do so by spreading kindness and joy, just as she did throughout her life.
