Berte Berry Calvin was a remarkable woman who graced this world with her presence from July 23, 1930, until May 26, 2026. Born in Hemphill, Texas, Berte's life was a testament to the power of kindness, resilience, and unwavering love. Berte was the beloved daughter of the late Lonnie and Rosetta Berry. She grew up in a nurturing environment that laid the foundation for her exceptional character. The bonds of family meant everything to Berte. She married Burrell, the love of her life, on February 27, 1949. Despite only being 18 and 21 when they got married, they shared a stong, loving bond that lasted 68 years-only broken by the passing of Burrell in 2017. Together, they built a legacy of love that will forever inspire those who knew them. A graduate of Richmond Union High School in Richmond, California, class of 1949, Berte went on to lead a fulfilling professional life. Her career spanned various roles, including model, realtor, and employee with the Department of the Army, but her longest and most impactful service was with the Social Security Administration. Berte's exemplary dedication and kind-hearted service were hallmarks of her career, and her colleagues and clients alike were fortunate to be touched by her warmth and professionalism. Berte's vibrant spirit and commitment to excellence, was ever-present in her community involvement. She found great joy in her social engagements. She was especially proud of being a longtime member of the Queen Esther Chapter #4, Order of the Eastern Star and the Benicia Professional Women Organization. Volunteering was also a very important part of her life. Whenever there was an opportunity to volunteer for any event surrounding her children or her community, Berte was always there to lend a happy, helpful hand. The outstanding service and professionalism that she emboided at work, also flowed over into her selfless dedication to her family and her community. Berte had many passions, but her love for dancing was unparalleled, She could often be found on the dance floor, spreading joy with every step. While she was still able, there was not a week that went by that she did not carve out time to be on the dancefloor. Her love for gardening, particularly her cherished rose bushes, was only rivaled by her love for hosting parties, where her flair for fashion and hospitality made every gathering a memorable occasion. Known for her impeccable style, she had an undeniable love for all things gold, which matched her radiant personality. Those who had the privilege of knowing Berte will remember her as a beacon of positivity, always offering a kind word and a warm smile. Her ability to uplift spirits with her endearing term of endearment, "Baby" ,and her unwavering kindness made her beloved by many. She was a woman of grace and beauty, both inside and out, who left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Berte was proceeded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Rosetta Berry, her beloved husband, Burrell, the sons she adored, Burrell Jr. and Brenton, her sister Azelle Robinson, and her brother Lonnie Berry. Those that are left behind to carry on her legacy are her daughter, Tami Hawkins (Al), her grandchildren, R.J. (Dayna), Myles, Elijah, and Janae, and her great-grandchildren, Ellis and Asher. She is also survived by her nephews, Willie "Billy" Robinson, Bobby Calvin, Kamati Calvin, Dante Calvin, Tommy Turner, Laurant Mixon, Loren Mixon, DaShawn Freeman, Ronald Robinson Jr., Darrell Robinson Jr., Antwon Robinson, and Ky'Mere Huddleston, nieces, Margaret Young, Dawn "Jeannie" Young, Rowena Shurn, Desiree Charles, Aljanae Caldwell, Michelle, Brandi Esters, and Tia Turner, cousins Albert Marshall, Martine Dozier, and Giselle Long, as well as her special friends, Kate McNamara as well as JoEllen and Gary Lay. in addition to all of the listed names, Berte has a host of extended family and friends that will continue to live in the light of her example. If Berte was here today, she would most certainly express her love and gratitude to her special niece, Jeannie.  With nothing but true love and dedication, Jeannie uprooted her life to take care of the aunt that she loved so much.  Her unwavering patience, love, and support will never be forgotten by the family and friends that loved Berte so much.  There aren't enough words to express our gratitude and appreciation.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. As we mourn the loss of a remarkable woman, we also celebrate the life of Berte Berry Calvin. Her legacy is one of love, resilience, and kindness, and it will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.
