Bernice Mae Fairhurst

February 5, 1954 — February 25, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Bernice Mae Fairhurst, affectionately known as "Bunny," on February 25, 2026. Born on February 5, 1954, in Milford, Massachusetts, Bunny was a beacon of love and laughter whose presence brightened the lives of all who knew her. She left this world surrounded by her beloved family, a testament to the deep connections she fostered throughout her life. Bunny was the cherished daughter of the late Marion and Stanley Chapin and is predeceased by her dear parents and her brother, Patrick Chapin. Her legacy continues through her loving husband, John Fairhurst, whom she married on a beautiful summer day, August 21, 2004. Together, they built a tapestry of family that includes her adored children, Diane Remillard and her husband, James, Richard Randall and his wife, Julie, and Robert Randall, as well as her stepsons, James and John Fairhurst. Bunny is also survived by her dear sister, Kathy Porter, and her twin brother, Stanley Chapin, along with his wife, Anu. Her youngest sister Tracey Rhodes, and her husband, Ross, were also close to her heart. Bunny’s legacy of love extends to her 12 grandchildren, Johnny, Dana, Jason, Deanna, Jake, Sammy, Erin, John, Samantha, Hailey, Katelyn, Hayden who were the light of her life, and her 3 precious great-grandchildren, Parker, Dakota, and Payton whom she adored beyond measure. Bunny dedicated many years of her professional life to Kmart and TJ Maxx, where her warmth and humor left an indelible mark. Outside of work, she found joy in knitting and crocheting gifts that wrapped her family and friends in her love. Her annual mother-daughter weekends at Nascar in New Hampshire were treasured memories, but nothing brought her more happiness than spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her laughter was infectious, and her ability to make others feel special was unmatched. In honor of her wishes, a private funeral ceremony was held. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate caregivers at UNC Hospice, particularly Jen and Sharon, for their exceptional care and kindness during Bunny’s final days. A celebration of her vibrant life will be planned for a later date, with details to be shared via a Facebook invitation. While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the extraordinary life of a woman who was funny, loving, and remarkably strong. Bunny's spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her, and her memory will forever be a source of comfort and joy. Rest in peace, dear Bunny, in the loving embrace of those who have gone before you. Your legacy lives on in the hearts of your family and friends, and your spirit shines brightly in the lives of your grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
