Bernice Mae Fairhurst

February 5, 1954 — February 25, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for her life that we announce the peaceful passing of Bernice Mae Fairhurst, lovingly known as "Bunny," on February 25, 2026, at her home in the comforting embrace of her family. Born on February 5, 1954, in Milford, Massachusetts, Bernice lived a life full of love, laughter, and a deep commitment to her family and friends. Bernice was the cherished daughter of Stanley and Marion Chapin, and she is now reunited with them and her beloved brother, Patrick Chapin, in eternal peace. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and joy that continues to bloom in the hearts of those who knew her. Bernice is survived by her devoted husband, John Fairhurst, with whom she shared a joyful marriage since August 21, 2004. Her sister Kathy Porter, her twin brother Stanley Chapin, and her sister Tracey Rhodes and husband Ross will deeply miss her loving presence. She also leaves behind her dear children: Diane Remillard and her husband James, Richard Randall and his wife Julie, and Robert Randall. As a grandmother to 12 adoring grandchildren—Johnny, Dana, Jason, Deanna, Erin, Jake, Sammy, John, Samantha, Hailey, Katelyn, and Hayden—and a great-grandmother to Parker, Dakota, and Payton, Bernice found her greatest joy in spending time with her family. Her home was often filled with the warmth of laughter, the fragrance of blooming flowers from her beloved garden, and the soft click of knitting needles crafting treasures for her loved ones. Bernice dedicated many years to her work at Kmart and TJMaxx, where her fun-loving spirit and caring nature touched the lives of many. Her colleagues and customers alike will remember her as a beacon of cheer and kindness. In her leisure time, Bernice could be found knitting and crocheting beautiful creations, tending to her flower garden, or watching the birds dance in the sky. She shared a special bond with her daughter over their love of NASCAR, creating cherished memories that will endure. Throughout her life, Bernice was known for her selflessness, always putting others before herself. She was a nurturing soul, finding immense joy in spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, ensuring they felt her boundless love. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Jen and Sharon from UNC Hospice for their compassionate care and support. A celebration of Bernice's remarkable life will be announced at a later date on Facebook. In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to honor Bernice's memory to plant a flower, knit a warm scarf for someone in need, or simply extend a hand to someone in kindness, as she so often did. Bernice Mae Fairhurst will be dearly missed, yet her spirit will live on in the laughter of her grandchildren, the beauty of a garden in bloom, and the gentle kindness that she spread so generously throughout her life.
