November 18, 1947 — September 22, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Lady Bernetta Elizabeth Mabson, a cherished beacon of faith, love, and resilience, who departed from us on September 22, 2026. Born on November 18, 1947, in Winchester, Kentucky, Bernetta was a devoted daughter to Mr. Louis Bronston and Cora E. Bronston, both of whom predeceased her. Her journey through life was marked by her indomitable spirit and unwavering faith, attributes that endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Bernetta was a miracle woman, a three-time cancer survivor who defied medical expectations with her steadfast will and faith. Her remarkable journey included overcoming numerous medical challenges, including three periods in hospice care, which she outlived twice—a testament to her tenacity and the power of prayer.
A proud graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Bernetta was a scholar and a talented musician, mastering the piano and clarinet. Her pursuit of education continued at Fugazi Business College in Lexington, Kentucky, during a challenging era of segregation, demonstrating her commitment to breaking barriers and striving for excellence.
Bernetta's professional life included a rewarding career at the University of Kentucky, as well as entrepreneurial endeavors as a seamstress. Her passion for music led her to direct and play for several churches over the years. Additionally, she was a trailblazer in her community, founding a new church under the House of God on Lexington's east end.
In August 2003, Bernetta married Bishop William Mabson in Lexington, Kentucky, at the close of the House Of God Convocation. Their union, spanning 23 years, was a profound testament to love and devotion, as they worked side by side in the vineyard of Kingdom building.
Bernetta was a devoted mother to her children, Thomas H. Mason II, Cora E. Johnson, and Aaron J. Mason. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren, Thomas H. Mason III (T3), Brianna Johnson, Chelaia Johnson, Damon Johnson, Ekya Mason, Demetri' and Dar'anne Tolbert, Benjamin Bluitt, and Alexandria Bluitt, as well as her great-grandchildren, Elijah Mason, Nicole Simpson, Mia Simpson, Lucian Simpson, Rosaline Dedman, Eli Dedman, Silas Johnson, Emerson Johnson, Josiah Tolbert, and Ji'Ana Tolbert.
Her life was enriched by her love for classical and gospel music, sewing, arts and crafts, fine dining, and antiquing. Yet, her greatest joys were found in the company of her family, friends, and ministry. Known for her quick wit and warm smile, Bernetta was a social butterfly who never met a stranger, and she was unwavering in her advocacy for living a life aligned with God's teachings.
Lady Mabson was a Proverbs 31 woman, a servant at heart, and a leader in her community. Her kindness, generosity, and dedication to justice touched countless lives. She was respected and admired, not only in her church but throughout the community she served so faithfully.
A celebration of Bernetta's life will be held on October 4, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the House of God, located at 866 Georgetown St., Lexington, Kentucky 40505. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to a charity of choice in Bernetta's memory.
