Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bernay Gardner, who departed this life on September 25, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 13, 1955, in the bustling city of New York, Bernay's life was a testament to resilience, love, and unwavering spirit.
Bernay was the beloved child of John Gardner, who instilled in him a sense of integrity and compassion that he carried throughout his life. Bernay's legacy lives on through his remarkable family, which includes ten grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren, each a testament to his enduring love and dedication.
A devoted member of his community, Bernay was known for his generosity and warmth. His life was a tapestry of rich experiences and cherished friendships, woven together with kindness and a sense of joy that touched all who knew him. Bernay's laughter and wisdom will be dearly missed but fondly remembered.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Greenwich Village, located at 371 6th Ave, New York, NY 10014. We invite all who knew and loved Bernay to join us in honoring his memory. The service will include a thoughtful program featuring a processional, heartfelt prayers, hymns, scripture readings, musical selections, words of remembrance, a eulogy, and a recessional. We will also share "An Irish Blessing," a poem that reflects the warmth and spirit of Bernay's life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Bernay's memory to St. Joseph’s Church in Greenwich Village, an organization close to his heart.
The family extends their deepest gratitude for the love, prayers, and support received during this difficult time. Your kindness has been a source of comfort and strength. As we remember Bernay Gardner, we hold onto the joy he brought into our lives and the love he shared so freely.
