Bernard Yates "Bro"

Bernard Yates, affectionately known to many as "Bro," passed away on June 24, 2026, in Augusta, Georgia, after valiantly battling illness. Born on December 18, 1955, in Augusta, Georgia, Bernard was a beacon of joy and laughter, a man whose presence could light up any room and whose humor brought smiles to all who knew him. The beloved son of the late Mrs. Essie Yates and Mr. Ben Yates, Bernard was predeceased by his parents, his sister Matina Yates, and his cherished niece, Vivica Robinson. Despite these losses, Bernard's spirit remained unbroken, buoyed by the love of his surviving family members and friends. Bernard is fondly remembered by his devoted siblings: four sisters, Vivian Robinson, Alverine Coleman, Edwina William, and Annie Bell Porter, and his brother, Melvin L. Yates. His life was further enriched by the presence of five nieces, three nephews, and a multitude of cousins and friends, all of whom held him dearly. Among them, his devoted friend, Rita Smalls, stood by his side with unwavering support. A proud alumnus of Lucy C. Laney High School, Bernard went on to dedicate many years of service to the community through his work at University Hospital and Merry Brothers Brickyard. His career, though cut short by his health, was marked by his unwavering dedication and a work ethic that inspired those around him. Bernard's love for life was evident in his hobbies and interests. Known for being the life of the party, he had an innate ability to make others laugh, a gift that he shared freely. His bond with his brother Melvin and his sister Vivian was a testament to the deep love and connection he fostered within his family. Throughout his life, Bernard demonstrated resilience, warmth, and a genuine care for others. His legacy is one of laughter, love, and a deep sense of community. Bernard's infectious laughter and kind heart will be sorely missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bernard's memory to a charity of your choice, honoring his generous spirit and love for helping others.
