Bernard Newsome

Bernard Newsome, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026, at Salem Crossing. Bernard's life story began on July 17, 1941, in Neon, Kentucky, where he was born to John Q. Newsome and Delphia Mae Barnes Newsome Quillen. Throughout his 84 years, Bernard touched the lives of many with his kindness, humor, and unwavering faith.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, his cherished wife Sharon, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years of marriage, and his brothers Carlos and Henry. Together, Bernard and Sharon built a loving family, raising their children with devotion and care. Bernard is survived by his sons: Alan, David, Michael (Donna), Doug, and Jason (Melissa), his daughter Miracle, and his beloved grandchildren: Brooklyn, Passion (Donald), Ethan, Travis, Tyler, Anthony, Austin, Valerie, Ziola, Tristan, James, and Esther. Bernard's legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Oliver, Daisy, Lilly, Jasmine, and Sophia. He is also survived by his brother Harvey C. Mead, sisters Betty Collier and Nyoka Brough, and many nieces and nephews.
In his professional life, Bernard dedicated himself to his work as a lumber stacker at Smith's Cabinets, from which he retired after many years of service. Known for his ingenuity, Bernard had a knack for finding solutions that made tasks easier for everyone around him. His quick wit and infectious laughter brought joy to those fortunate enough to know him.
Bernard was a devoted member of Rivers of Living Waters Ministries in Salem, where he found joy in worship and fellowship. His faith was not just a part of his life, but the foundation upon which he built everything. Bernard's love for the Lord was evident in his vibrant testimonies and the warmth he shared with his church community.
Outside of work and church, Bernard was a family man who loved to have fun and joke around. He cherished every moment spent with his family, creating memories that will be treasured for generations.
A service to honor and celebrate Bernard's life will be held on July 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Rivers of Living Waters Ministries, 711 W. Mulberry Street. Family and friends are invited to join in remembering a man who lived his life with faith, love and laughter.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. (2 Timothy 4:7). Bernard's race may have ended, but his legacy of love and faith continues to inspire us all.
