In Loving Memory

Benjamin Kamartay Lamar Thompson
September 5, 2005 — April 26, 2026
In loving memory of Benjamin Kamartay Lamar Thompson, who graced us with his presence from September 5, 2005, to April 26, 2026. Born in the heart of Jackson, Mississippi, Benjamin brought warmth, joy, and a spirit of kindness to everyone he encountered. His journey, though tragically short, was filled with love, laughter, and a profound sense of community.
Benjamin was the cherished son of Benton Thompson Jr. and Kenyatta Addison, and from a young age, he exhibited a heart full of generosity and a soul touched by compassion. He was the beloved brother to a large and closely-knit family including Ralpheal Addison, Amourey J. Gaines, Angelicia Nunnery, Darian Thompson, Rethea Thompson, Trey Varnado, Ja'vontae Young, Ra’niyah Thompson, Ja’mauri Young, Lylia Young, Christina Young, and Kamel Nelson. Their bonds were strengthened by countless shared memories and adventures.
His educational journey began at the age of four when he joined Headstart at Westbrook School in McComb, Mississippi. Benjamin's educational path continued through Otken Elementary School, Higgins Middle School, and Denman Junior High, culminating in his graduation from McComb High School. Each step of his academic career was marked by curiosity, determination, and a readiness to embrace new challenges.
Benjamin worked closely with his father and grandfather during summer breaks, where he learned the values of hard work and dedication through painting, janitorial work, and yard maintenance. These experiences instilled in him a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life.
His faith was an integral part of his life, and he was a devoted member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Rev. Benton Thompson Sr. Benjamin’s commitment to community service was exemplified by his membership in the NAACP, where he actively participated in initiatives that aimed to uplift and empower others.
A vibrant young man, Benjamin loved connecting with friends and family through social media on his iPhone and Instagram. His favorite moments were spent hanging out with his cousins, brothers, and sisters, filling the air with laughter and music – particularly the tunes of YoungBoy, which resonated with him deeply. His love for McDonald's was legendary among those who knew him, often accompanied by smiles and shared stories.
Benjamin was a beacon of kindness and a truly good-hearted person. His presence in our lives was a gift, and although he has left this world too soon, his spirit and memories will forever remain in our hearts. As we lay him to rest, we remember not only the loss but the legacy of love and warmth he leaves behind.
A service to celebrate Benjamin's life will be held at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where family, friends, and community members will gather to honor his memory and the indelible mark he left on us all. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the NAACP in Benjamin's name, continuing his mission of fostering hope and positive change.
Rest in peace, dear Benjamin. Your light will forever guide us.
