Beatrice Lorraine Simpson

April 9, 1936 — April 21, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Beatrice Lorraine Simpson, who departed this world peacefully on April 21, 2026, in the comforting embrace of her home, under the care of the dedicated staff at Hillsdale Hospice. Beatrice graced this world with her presence for 90 beautiful years, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her. Born on April 9, 1936, in the close-knit community of Dorton, Kentucky, Beatrice was the cherished daughter of Mazie and Arlie Burke. She was raised in a family filled with love and laughter, alongside her brothers Jetress, Gary, Ricky, and Jerome Burke, and her sister Dean. Beatrice graduated from Dorton High School in 1955, where she cultivated her love for storytelling and made lifelong friends who would cherish her warmth and kindness. In August of 1955, Beatrice married Edward Flynn, with whom she shared nearly three decades of happiness and partnership until his passing in 1984. Fate smiled upon her once more, and in 1986, she found love again, marrying Norman Simpson, who also predeceased her. Together, they built a family and a life filled with joy and resilience. Beatrice was a woman of remarkable talents and boundless generosity. After a fulfilling career as a factory worker, she channeled her creativity into quilting—a passion that brought beauty and warmth to countless homes. Over her lifetime, she crafted approximately 60 exquisite quilts, each a labor of love, gifted to family members to be cherished for generations. Her creations were not just quilts but tapestries of her love and care. Her greatest legacy, however, lies in her family. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Sherry (John) Kirkland, Sheila Cusson, and Sonja (Eddie) Stogsdill, who carry forward her nurturing spirit and wisdom. Beatrice's legacy extends to her 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, each a testament to the love she sowed and the stories she shared. Beatrice possessed a sharp mind and a remarkable memory, delighting all with her tales of yesteryear. Her stories were rich with history, humor, and the lessons of a life well-lived, captivating all who had the privilege to listen. Her presence was a beacon of joy and wisdom in our lives. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate team at Hillsdale Hospice for their unwavering support and tender care of Beatrice in her final days. In her memory, donations may be made to Hillsdale Hospice, celebrating the care and comfort they provide to families in need. As we bid farewell to Beatrice, we take solace in knowing that her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched. Her laughter, her kindness, and her love will forever be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. May her soul rest in peace, reunited with those who went before her, in a place of eternal love and light.
