With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the unexpected passing of Barry Olin Stephens Jr., who left this world on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at the age of 48. Born on May 10, 1977, in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, Barry's life was a tapestry of dedication, resilience, and love that touched everyone who had the privilege to know him. Barry was the beloved son of Barry Stephens Sr. and the late Elizabeth Ann Fletcher, whose nurturing spirit and unwavering support shaped the kind and generous man he became. Barry's life was a testament to the strength drawn from family, which he held dear and cherished above all. Barry is survived by his loving children, who were the pride and joy of his life: daughters Recenia Stephens (Christopher) of Commerce, TX, Ashia Stephens of Greenville, TX, and Daytreiona Stephens of Dallas, TX; sons Jordan Stephens of Dallas, TX, Baron Stephens, and Jamal Stephens of Mt Pleasant, TX. He also leaves behind his devoted siblings: sisters Veronica Wilburn (Lynn) of Greenville, TX, and Briniqua Stephens (William) of Mount Pleasant, TX; brothers Brian Gilstrap of Indianapolis, IN, and Jalen Stephens (Marquaylon) of Mount Pleasant, TX. His cherished grandmother, Ester Johnson, survives him as well. Barry's legacy continues through his eight adored grandchildren, who will forever carry the memory of their grandfather's gentle smile and kind heart. Barry shared a significant part of his life with Vedesa Williams, the mother of his children, with whom he created a family full of warmth and love. Their bond was a testament to the enduring nature of their shared journey. Raised and educated in Colorado Springs, CO, Barry persevered to earn his GED in 2010, a testament to his commitment to personal growth and education. His career path was as diverse and dynamic as the man himself. From various roles in Greenville, Commerce, and McKinney, TX, to his dedicated work at the Mount Pleasant Daily Tribune newspaper, Barry's professional life was marked by hard work and dedication. Most recently, he was a cherished employee at The Sweet Shop in Mt Pleasant, where his presence will be sorely missed. Beyond his professional life, Barry was a man of many passions. He found joy in the world of gaming, music, and movies, pursuits that brought him relaxation and happiness. These interests were a reflection of his vibrant personality and his ability to find joy in the simple pleasures of life. Barry's passing is a profound loss, but his memory will be celebrated in a private funeral ceremony, respecting his family's wishes for privacy during this difficult time. In these moments of remembrance, the family offers a special message, inspired by the comforting words of Psalm 23, a testament to Barry's faith and the peace he has found in the Lord's embrace: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." In honor of Barry Olin Stephens Jr., let us remember a life well-lived, a heart full of love, and a spirit that will forever be with us. May he rest in eternal peace.
