In Loving Memory of Barbara Sorel
On June 12, 2026, the world lost a cherished soul with the passing of Barbara Sorel, a devoted wife, sister, aunt, educator, and friend. Born on April 30, 1948, in Southington, Connecticut, Barbara graced us with 78 years of warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love. She was the beloved daughter of the late Sampson and Florence (Ingelido) Bull, and a guiding light to her surviving siblings, Mary-Jane Lozefski (Raymond), Laura Driscoll, and sister-in-law Barbara Bull.
Barbara was the devoted wife of the late John David Sorel, with whom she shared a remarkable marriage of 54 adventurous and loving years. Their union, which began on August 14, 1971, was a testament to the power of love, mutual respect, and shared adventures. Together, they navigated life's joys and challenges, learning to pick their battles and cherishing each other's passions.
A proud graduate of Bristol Eastern High School in 1966, Barbara pursued her passion for education at Central Connecticut State College, earning a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. Her dedication to learning led her to further her studies, obtaining a Master's Degree in Education and a Sixth Year Degree in Administration. Her career as a third-grade teacher at Mountain View School in Bristol spanned 36 years, where she touched countless young lives with her gift for making students feel special and inspired. Barbara was a pivotal figure in curriculum development and a treasured member of the PTO, Math League, and the school's social club.
In retirement, Barbara continued to lead and inspire through her active involvement in the Cove Isle Community. She initiated twice-weekly card games, served on the social committee, and organized monthly luncheons, enriching the lives of those around her. Her love for reading drew her to the community book club, where she embraced diverse genres and shared her insights with fellow enthusiasts.
Barbara's heart was as vast as her interests. A passionate genealogist, she researched and documented the rich histories of her family, creating treasured ancestry books for her siblings on the Ingelidos, Montefiores, LaRocques, and Bulls. Her kindness extended to her extended family, Art and Bette Flath, and Dave and Gina Reardon with their daughters, Taylor and Kaitlyn, with whom she shared cherished moments.
Known affectionately as "The Boss" by her nephews Dan and Bob Driscoll, Steve and Mike Bull, Matt Lozefski, and her special niece Amy DelDebbio, Barbara was a beacon of strength and leadership. Her legacy is woven into the lives of her family, friends, and former students, who often mentioned her in scholarship essays as a source of inspiration.
Barbara joins in eternal rest her husband John, parents Sam and Florence, sister Patricia, and brother Richard. Her absence leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her, yet her spirit endures in the lessons she taught, the love she shared, and the memories she created.
As we celebrate the life of Barbara Sorel, we remember a woman of remarkable grace, dedication, and love—a true educator at heart, whose legacy will continue to illuminate the paths of those she touched. May her soul find peace and her memory be a blessing to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
