Barbara Rings
July 12, 1950 — September 11, 2026
Barbara Rings, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2026, in the comforting surroundings of Northern Lights Rehab and Long Term Care. Born on July 12, 1950, in Crosby, North Dakota, Barbara lived a life filled with kindness, devotion, and joy.
Daughter to the late Melvin and Mary Tonneson, Barbara was raised in a loving home that instilled in her the values of compassion and generosity that she carried throughout her life. She was predeceased by her cherished niece, Laura Bly, and her beloved grandchildren, Bethany, Faith, and Hope Rings.
Barbara's journey through life was rich with love and family. She married Mike Rings in 1968, and though their marriage did not endure, it was blessed with four wonderful children: Angela (Dave) Wacaster, Chad (Jenna) Rings, Donnie (DeAnna) Rings, and Travis (Pam) Rings. Her legacy continues through her 13 grandchildren—Cameron, Ethan, Andrew, Nathan, Jackson, Amber, Kelsey, Jared, Alex, Dawson, Cassie, Carter, and Lincoln—and seven great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and laughter into her life.
Barbara's education began at Columbus High School, followed by courses at Williston State College and Minot State University. Her career was dedicated to caring for others; she spent many years as a nurse's aide at Tioga Hospital and Trinity Hospital in Minot. Her compassionate care touched the lives of countless patients, earning her constant praise and gratitude. Before retiring in 2016, Barbara worked at Minot State University, bringing her kindness and dedication to every role she undertook.
In her personal life, Barbara found joy in music. She loved singing, dancing, and playing instruments. Though she never received formal training, her ability to play by ear was a testament to her natural talent and love for music.
Barbara was a sweet, kind, and generous person who cherished her family above all. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the sound of children's laughter was her greatest joy. Her warmth and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew her.
