Born on March 25, 1951, in the charming heart of Savannah, Georgia, Barbara was a beacon of warmth and kindness to all who knew her. Her journey through life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family and community. Barbara was the treasured daughter of Thaddeus and Magnolia Moxley, who instilled in her the values of compassion and resilience. She grew up alongside her siblings, predeceased brothers Jimmy Hagan, Chancey Moxley, and Thaddeus Moxley Jr., and her surviving sister, Carol Hopson. Her family was her anchor, and she carried forward the legacy of love and unity that her parents so gracefully imparted. A proud graduate of Savannah High School, Barbara pursued higher education with determination. Her career began with the United States Postal Service in New Jersey, where she worked diligently for two years. She then dedicated over 35 years as an Administrative Support Specialist to the United States Department of Agriculture, retiring with the respect and admiration of her colleagues. Her professional life was mirrored by her unwavering commitment to her community. A devoted member of Emmanuel Community Church for over two decades, Barbara served as the church secretary and was an integral part of the new members board. Her faith was a guiding light, and her contributions to the church were invaluable. Barbara's laughter was infectious, her humor a balm for the soul. A private person by nature, she was nonetheless a welcoming presence, ensuring everyone felt at home in her company. Her love for reading and baking homemade cakes brought joy to many, and her culinary creations were a testament to her creativity and love for those around her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Rakestraw, and is survived by a family who adored her: stepchildren Darrick and LaShawn Rakestraw; sister-in-law Addie Moxley; nephews Barry Hagan, Lamar Hopson, Kirk Hopson, and Chauncey Moxley; nieces Erika Moxley, Regina Johnson, Belinda Hagan, and Damisha Moxley; godchildren Mazie and Joseph Page; as well as a multitude of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
