Barbara Ofelia Spangler

December 4, 1960 — April 19, 2026

It is with heavy hearts but fond memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Barbara Ofelia Spangler at the age of 65. Surrounded by her loving family, Barbara drew her final breath on April 19, 2026, at her home in Salinas, California, a place that had been the backdrop for her cherished memories and a haven for her abundant love. Born on December 4, 1960, to Marcelino Ortiz Sr and Luisa Ramirez Ortiz, Barbara was the embodiment of warmth and resilience. Her early years in Salinas were filled with laughter and the close bonds she formed with her siblings. Educated at North Salinas High, Barbara's life was a testament to the values she learned growing up in a tight-knit family, and she carried these principles into every facet of her life. In August 1979, Barbara married her beloved husband, Wayne Maurice Spangler Jr, and together they built a home filled with laughter, music, and love. They raised two wonderful children, Daniel and Tina, who were the pride and joy of Barbara’s life. Her legacy lives on through her children and her four treasured grandchildren — Lily Frutos, Jacob Bernal, Michael Spangler, and Grace Spangler — who will forever carry her spirit in their hearts. Barbara's career was as diverse as it was fulfilling. Whether she was crafting the perfect sandwich, volunteering at school, or nurturing young lives as a nanny, Barbara's indefatigable spirit and kindness left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Her passion for community service shone through her involvement with the Kiwanis Club and her dedicated efforts with the Salvation Army's bell ringing and Brown Bag programs. Her creative soul found joy in arts and crafts, and her love for music was infectious, often bringing a song and a dance into the hearts of those around her. Barbara’s life was a tapestry of laughter and song, woven with threads of compassion and selflessness. She was a cherished sister to Marcelino Ortiz Jr, Anndrea Simons, and Richard Ortiz, and her memory will be lovingly held by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Though predeceased by her mother, Luisa Ortiz, sisters Carmen VanPelt and Theresa Holland, and brother Juan Mario Ortiz, her spirit remains a guiding light for her surviving family. A private funeral service will be held in her honor, a fitting tribute to a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Hinds Hospice, whose compassionate care was a source of comfort during Barbara's final days. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Hinds Hospice for their unwavering support. Barbara Ofelia Spangler's laughter, her love of dance and music, and her ceaseless generosity will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy is one of love—a love that will continue to echo in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
