Born on August 1, 1954, in Lawrence, Kansas, Barbara was a beacon of love and warmth to all who knew her. She passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by the family she treasured so deeply.
Barbara was the beloved daughter of William and Lola, who instilled in her the values of compassion and resilience. She carried these traits into her life's work, making a profound impact on the lives of many through her career. After graduating from Lawrence High School, Barbara dedicated herself to caring for others. In 1980, she began her career working with mentally handicapped children, a role she embraced with unwavering devotion. Her career evolved in 1994 when she transitioned to working with mentally handicapped adults, continuing this noble work until her retirement in 2010. Her colleagues and those she cared for remember her as someone who brought joy and dignity to every interaction.
Barbara's life was a tapestry of vibrant interests and hobbies that reflected her joyful spirit and creativity. She was a master at transforming ordinary moments into extraordinary memories, especially when planning special family events and parties. Her home was a gallery of her passions, adorned with her cherished collections of Black Angels, Betty Boop memorabilia, and African masks. A lover of puzzles and word games, she delighted in hidden object and word find challenges, always eager to engage her sharp mind.
In her garden, Barbara cultivated not only beautiful flowers but also a sense of peace and tranquility. Her love for 70's R&B music was the soundtrack to her life, filling her home with the rhythm of cherished memories. Her creative spirit knew no bounds, as she dabbled in crafts of all kinds, each project a testament to her imagination and skill.
Barbara was a woman of remarkable character. She was known for her sense of humor and easygoing nature, though those who knew her best were well aware of the formidable strength she inherited from her mother. Her siblings fondly recall her ability to stand firm when needed, often remarking with a smile, "She could turn into her mother when pushed!"
Barbara's legacy is carried on by her devoted family, who will forever cherish her memory. She is survived by her loving siblings, two sons who were the pride of her life, and two granddaughters who brought her immeasurable joy. Her family was her heart, and she was theirs.
