Born on May 1, 1941, in the charming town of Lenoir, North Carolina, Barbara was the loving daughter of Jesse James and Elizabeth Mae Keller. Her life was a luminous tapestry woven with love, laughter, and a boundless spirit of generosity.
Barbara's journey began in the close-knit community of Lenoir, where she developed a profound love for life and learning. A proud alumna of Kings Creek High School, she further enriched her mind and spirit at Caldwell Community College. Throughout her life, she effortlessly combined her passions with her innate talents, creating a legacy that will be cherished by those who knew her.
Basketball was one of Barbara’s early loves, and she played with a determination and grace that left an indelible mark on those who watched her. Off the court, her artistic soul found expression in her beautiful paintings and intricate crochet work, each piece reflecting the vibrant colors and textures of her heart. In the kitchen, she was a maestro, delighting family and friends with culinary creations that nurtured both body and soul. Her garden was a sanctuary of blooms and greenery, where she found peace and inspiration in nature's quiet beauty.
Barbara was predeceased by her devoted parents, Jesse and Elizabeth Keller, her brother Charles Pritchard, and her beloved daughter-in-law Kimberly Blevins. Though their absence left a void, her heart remained full, sustained by the love of her surviving family.
She shared a beautiful life with her devoted husband, Marshall Blevins, whose steadfast love was a cornerstone of her happiness. Together, they nurtured a family that continues to reflect the warmth and kindness of Barbara’s spirit. Her children, LaVenta "Sam" Umek and LaMarr Blevins, carry forward her legacy of love and compassion. Her grandchildren, Lauren Keyes (Vince), Kendra Lanning Umek, Lana Umek, Brand Blevins (Kayla), Heather Beaver (Alan), and Brandon Harris, were the pride and joy of her life. The laughter and joy of her great-grandchildren, Leah Lanning, Zayden Lanning, Izabel Blevins, and Ryker Blevins, were a testament to the enduring spirit of family that she so deeply cherished.
Barbara's heart was expansive, and she embraced her honorary grandchildren, Yelena Dorofeyava, Polina, DurSameen Kahn, and Bair Ankarvich (Olgia), with the same love and warmth she showed her own, delighting in the lives of her honorary great-grandchildren, Miron, Hazel Kahn, Mark, and Leo Ankaravich.
