Barbara Kay Sutton Strohman

Barbara Kay Sutton Strohman, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on August 5, 2026, after a courageous battle with multiple cancers. Born on June 23, 1946, in Montebello, California, Barbara was the cherished daughter of Clifford Lloyd Sutton and June Etta Battenschlag. From an early age, Barbara demonstrated a remarkable work ethic, beginning her career as a medical transcriptionist at just 16 years old. Her passion and dedication led her to establish her own business in the mid-1970s, which she ran successfully until her retirement in 2016. Her sister Carol, son Brian, daughter-in-law Allison, and numerous others had the privilege of working alongside her over the years. Barbara's life was enriched by her unwavering faith as a lifelong active member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Her devotion was evident through her service in the altar guild, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, handbells and choir, and Laborers for Christ. She also played an integral role at Lutherhaven Ministries in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where she managed the laundry facilities with grace and care. On August 18, 1968, Barbara married the love of her life, Douglas Strohman, with whom she shared 57 wonderful years. Together, they raised two sons, Brian (Jill) and Craig (Allison), who blessed them with five grandchildren: Emma, Nathan, Mariah, Caleb, and Austin. Barbara's family was her greatest joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them. In addition to her family and faith, Barbara found happiness in her hobbies. She was an avid quilter, scrapbooker, and gardener, and she had a special place in her heart for her dogs and cats, to whom she devoted much love and attention. Barbara is predeceased by her parents, Cliff and June Sutton, and her sister Carol. She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion, and her memory will be cherished by her husband Douglas, her sons and their families, and countless friends and community members. A celebration of Barbara's life will be held on August 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church, located at 1700 East Pennsylvania Ave, Coeur d'Alene, ID. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Lutherhaven Ministries in her honor. The Strohman family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hospice of North Idaho for their professional and compassionate care during Barbara's final days. Her loving spirit will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
