In Loving Memory of Barbara Jean Henson
It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived, that we announce the passing of our beloved Barbara Jean Henson, who departed this world on March 30, 2026, after a courageous battle with dementia. Born on October 30, 1942, in Ft. Worth, Texas, to Doyle and Nina Combest, Barbara was a cherished daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. She was 83 years old.
Barbara's journey began in the heart of Texas, where she graduated from Vernon High School in 1961. Shortly thereafter, she married the love of her life, William "Bill" Henson Jr., on June 25, 1961. Their enduring partnership spanned 64 beautiful years, during which they ventured across many states and even to Africa, courtesy of Bill's military service. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures.
Barbara's professional journey was as diverse as her talents. She worked in retail, owned a quaint cake shop that brought joy to many, and served as a bookkeeper for Rogers Properties. Her skills in the kitchen were unmatched, especially her prowess in baking. Barbara's cookies were a delight, lovingly decorated and gifted to Vacation Bible School and Wednesday Evening Feasts. Her cakes, particularly her exquisite wedding cakes, were a testament to her artistry and were a centerpiece of celebrations for her family and friends at the Western Hills church of Christ, where she was a devoted member for 45 years.
Beyond her culinary talents, Barbara was an avid scrapbooking enthusiast and quilter. Her quilts, each a work of art, were created with love and sometimes donated to raise money for Breast Cancer and Parkinson's, causes close to her heart due to her participation in various awareness walks.
Barbara's warmth and kindness were her hallmarks. Known for her quick smile and warm embrace, she had an especially tender spot for two and three-year-old children. She would often be found at their level, engaging in playful conversations or games, her gentle nature endearing her to all.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Doyle and Nina Combest, and her beloved daughter, Teresa Henson. Her memory will be cherished by her devoted husband, Bill, her daughter Sue Wells and son-in-law Wade, her son Bill Henson and daughter-in-law Tammy, her son James Henson and daughter-in-law Beverly, her sister Penny Baker, and her brother Joe Combest. She also leaves behind six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.
A memorial service to honor Barbara's life will be held on May 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Western Hills church of Christ, located at 1108 NW 53rd Street. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Dementia Society of America at www.DementiaSociety.org/donate, in memory of Barbara's courageous battle.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate hospice staff and the caregivers at Willow Park Health Care Center for their tender care during Barbara's final days. They are also deeply appreciative of the outpouring of love, cards, phone calls, and hugs from friends and family.
Barbara Jean Henson's legacy is one of love, compassion, and unwavering strength. Her presence will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
