April 1, 1953 — March 1, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Barbara Jan Lystrup, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, on March 1, 2026, in Portland, Oregon, after a brief illness. Born on April 1, 1953, in Mollala, Oregon, Barbara graced this world with her vibrant presence for nearly 73 years. Barbara was the cherished daughter of Phyllis and Alvin Uitto, whose love and values shaped her into the passionate and compassionate woman we all knew. Preceded in death by her parents and her dear sister Denise, Barbara's legacy of love and resilience continues to inspire those she leaves behind. A free spirit at heart, Barbara led a colorful life, rich with experiences and encounters that exemplify her boundless curiosity and zest for life. Her journey was not always easy, but her indomitable spirit never wavered, teaching us all the value of perseverance and hope. Barbara's life was deeply enriched by her love for music, art, and science—passions that she pursued with an open heart and an inquisitive mind. Her appreciation for the beauty around her was evident in every note she played, every brushstroke she painted, and every discovery she cherished. Her commitment to the environment and her compassion for animals were defining aspects of her character, leading her to support causes close to her heart, such as the Oregon Humane Society. Her daughter Makenzie survives her, carrying forward Barbara's legacy of love, creativity, and courage. Barbara also leaves behind her brother, along with a host of nieces and nephews, who will forever remember her as a beacon of warmth and inspiration. Barbara's life was a testament to the power of individuality and the enduring impact of kindness and love. Her laughter, wisdom, and the stories she shared will be dearly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. In honoring Barbara's memory, the family requests that donations be made to the Oregon Humane Society, an organization that mirrors her lifelong dedication to the welfare of animals. As we bid farewell to Barbara, let us celebrate the life of a remarkable woman whose presence made our world a brighter, more compassionate place. May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her memory be a guiding light for us all.
