January 25, 1944 — April 1, 2026

In loving memory of Barbara J. Dodwell-Gillespey, who peacefully joined her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 1, 2026. Born on January 25, 1944, in Decatur, Illinois, Barbara graced the world with her vibrant spirit for 82 cherished years. Barbara was the beloved daughter of Harvey M. and Anna M. West, now reunited with them, her husbands Edward Dodwell and Ronald Gillespey, and her sister Opal Durbin in eternal peace. Her journey through life was marked by love, dedication, and an enduring faith, which she shared with everyone she encountered. On May 11, 1962, Barbara married Edward Dodwell, with whom she built a beautiful family until his passing in 1998. She later found love again with Ronald Gillespey, marrying him on July 1, 2000, until he too preceded her in death in 2002. Together, Barbara and her husbands shared a life filled with laughter, devotion, and mutual respect. Barbara's greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind her loving children, Katrina (David) Hartman and John (Suzy) Dodwell. Her grandchildren, Rachel (Drew) Sloan, Ryan (Chelsea) Hartman, Chelsea Dodwell, and Craig Dodwell, along with her seven great-grandchildren, were the light of her life, bringing her pride and happiness. She is also survived by her brother, Melvin (Jackie) West, who shared in her life’s journey. Professionally, Barbara began her career at GE before dedicating herself as a full-time homemaker and neighborhood day care provider. She was also an Avon representative for many years. She later continued her career at ADM and at Servpro until her retirement. Barbara was a beacon of faith as an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, where she found solace and purpose. Her life was a testament to her joyful, free spirit and her later dedication as a servant of Christ. A woman of diverse interests, Barbara was an avid bowler for nearly four decades, participating in several leagues each week. She found joy in chair caning and had a passion for travel, always eager to explore new places and create lasting memories with her family and friends. A private celebration of life will be held to honor Barbara's remarkable life at a later date. Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to Memorial Hospice, Memorial Cardiac Care Unit, and Mt. Zion Health and Rehab for their compassionate care and support in her final days.
