Barbara Hepner

Barbara Hepner, a pioneering spirit with a heart full of love, passed away peacefully at her home in Vallejo, California, on August 8, 2026, after a long illness. Born on May 13, 1943, to Finley F. Wilkinson and Virginia H. Wilkinson, Barbara was a beacon of strength and inspiration to all who knew her. Barbara's adventurous spirit was evident from a young age. After attending Bountiful High School, she discovered her passion for flying. What began as an introductory flight in a small aircraft blossomed into a remarkable career in aviation. In 1965, Barbara earned her Private Pilot Certificate, and by 1967 she had achieved her Commercial Pilot Certificate. Her dedication and skill led her to become the first female in the United States to obtain a commercial certificate for the Lear Jet in 1972, a groundbreaking accomplishment that paved the way for countless women in aviation. Her life was marked not only by her professional achievements but also by her deep and abiding love for her family. Barbara married David W. Barlow on July 3, 1959, and later married Kenneth L. Hepner on December 17, 1974. Kenneth and Barbara shared many cherished years together before his passing. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Kenneth and her great-grandsons, Brooks and Beckham Morgan. Barbara's legacy lives on through her children, Jodee (Bret) Morgan, Cory (Pam) Barlow, and Rod (Jamie) Barlow, who carry forward her values of strength, determination, and love. She was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren and a great-grandmother to fifteen great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to her life. In addition to her family and career, Barbara had a tender spot for her “puppies,” Katie and Cani, who preceded her in passing. Her love for her pets was yet another testament to her kind and nurturing nature. Barbara's family suggests that those wishing to honor her memory make donations to a charity of their choice. Her spirit of generosity and her commitment to making the world a better place will continue to inspire all who knew her.
