Barbara B. Deese

Barbara B. Deese, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at Novant Medical in Matthews, NC, on June 11, 2026. Born on November 15, 1941, in Charlotte, NC, Barbara was the cherished daughter of Savannah and Thelma Rhyne Blakeney. She was blessed with the love of her life, Baxter Deese Sr., whom she married in August, 1961. Together, they shared 46 beautiful years of marriage, raising a family that now spans generations. Preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Baxter Deese Sr., her sister Carolyn Saunders, her children, Carol Deese Massey, Goldie Deese Anthony, and Colette Deese Torrence. Barbara is survived by her devoted son, Baxter Deese Jr., and her daughter, Lawand Deese. Also surviving her is her last living aunt, Fannie Rhyne Corley of Silver Spring, Maryland, 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and a special nephew, Steven Saunders, who resides in North Carolina. Barbara's life was a testament to her strength, love, and unwavering faith. She was an avid reader of the bible expending quoted scriptures to her family, friends, and those whom she came in contact with. The Deese family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and support they have received during this difficult time. Special thanks go to the congregations of the Ballentyne and Indian Land Jehovah’s Witnesses, cousin Dorothy Boulware, her neighbor for over 50 years Brenda Bell, and her bonus children Josita Blue, Wanda McPherson, Margaret Johnson, Sharon, and Elnathan Davis, whose kindness and support have been a great source of comfort.
